Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Electronic Arts releases another version of their long-running Need For Speed series, based on the legendary Porsche sports car. As in Need For Speed 4: Road Challenge, Need For Speed: Porsche 2000 is a great racing game.

After viewing the rendered intro sequence, the game contains 24 Porsches to choose from initially, with that number potentially increasing to 74. Each is faithfully recreated for the game, with the games' physics engine encompassing each of the cars unique handling style and personality.

The graphics run smoothly and the sound is ample. It is the game modes, however, where this game shines. I incorporates a career mode, time trials and an evolution mode, where the game gives the player the opportunity to trade and create the ultimate dream Porsche car, the games longevity is not in question. Need For Speed : Porsche 2000 is a worthy addition to the Need For Speed series. --Alex Leung.

3.0 out of 5 stars Need for Speed Porsche, 13 Feb 2001
By A Customer
This game is a must buy for anyone who is a fan of Porsches, and it is actually a pretty good driving sim. The graphics are pretty good, though not up to the standards of Gran Turismo 2. The choice of cars is also good, with bonus cars being unlocked by winning tournaments.

There is a hot pursuit mode, as seen in previous titles in the series, and the Evolution mode, which is excellent. You start of in the past, and as the game moves on so does the time, with new models being launched.

The is a major problem with this game, though - the handling of the cars. The cars tend to turn to about 35 degrees, then suddenly let go, so it is very easy to crash or misjudge a corner.

But realism aside, this is a very good effort from Electronic Arts. Put but it up against Gran Turismo 2, available on Platinum, the 2-year old title shows why its such a successful title.

4.0 out of 5 stars A computerised history of the porsche legend, 14 Dec 2000
By A Customer
Need for speed porsche 2000 is, overall, a fantastic game. The graphics are excellent, although some of the cars look too similar, but with some 74 porsche models to choose from, this can easily be forgiven. The opening sequence of the game is brilliant, although slightly too long, and this then opens onto a well laid out options menu, where there are several modes to choose from. The Evolution mode could be a game in it's own right, as it copies the Gran Turismo theme, where cars are bought using credits and you then race to earn more credits in order to buy and race more cars. There is also a test driver mode, where you build a carreer as a test driver for Porsche. You are set tasks by other test drivers, many of which are extremely difficult, which you must complete in order to progress. Finally, the single race mode allows several different race events, including the trademark need for speed chase, where you must evade capture from the police. There is also a video of Porsche through the ages which is quite entertaining. Overall this is a well rounded game which provides a real challenge for even the most hardened racing games enthusiast. Very fast, great fun.
