Capcoms Versus series just got better!, 9 Sep 2000
By A Customer
Marvel Vs Capcom 2 is the 4th installment in Capcoms crazy versus series, X-Men Vs Streetfighter (Saturn/Arcade), Marvel Superheroes Vs Streetfighter (Saturn/Arcade), Marvel Vs Capcom (Dreamcast/Arcade) being the other three, but this is definitly the one that takes the trophy. Unfortunatly X-Men vs Streetfighter and Marvel Vs Streetfighter never got a release on an English console (apart from the feable EX editions on Playstation with no tag which is the element of the game), so in England there is only Marvel Vs Capcom to really compare it to. Major improvements have been made to MvsC2, including 3D backdrops and foregrounds, 56 characters, and a new 4 -button config on the pad, as supposed to the old 6 - button (streetfighter) config we all know and love. 56 charcters I here you hum, how? Where from? I hear you cry, well all of the Marvel characters both heroes and villians from the other 3 games have all been put in, as well as the Streetfighters and Capcom additions, plus some new familiar and zany additions from Capcom and some of the characters featured in X-Men:Children of the Atom, and Marvel Superheroes, so really this game is 5 games remixed together. So what else? oh well the two team tag mode and assist has been scrapped, WHAT? NO! , and replaced with a three team tag and assist type select, to make it even more interesting. '56 characters you'll soon get bored soon as you have been through them all' no you want, you start off with only 24 characters the rest are time released and then you need points which you earn to buy them in the shop, along with new stages and colours, so there is a bit to do. With the 4 - button config it is now easier to pull out combos using the create-a-combo system, X and Y are weak and strong punch, and A and B are weak and strong kick, but if you tap weak button twice while attacking an opponent you will do a weak and medium attack, cool! The L and R buttons are used to call your character to assist, and if you press them together you will unleash the hybrid hyper combo, thats not all, also included is the new delayed hyper combo, this is the most awesome move you can do when done correctly and devastating, when you have level 2 or more (it goes up to 4 now) you simply do your super with the character you are using then do the code for the super for the next character and then they will come on and do theres then again to bring on the third, it is totally awesome and is devastating with certain characters, or sometimes just pretty to look at. So with all this, the game becomes very mad, sometimes you can actually have all 6 characters on screen doing different operations, and it can get confusing, but overall the game is very rewarding and is definitly a challenge. The only bummer is no internet battle, unfortunatly it was taken out of the Jap version. This game wil be a hit with all Versus fans and Capcom fans, to everyone else it will be a temporary fun gap. An excellent game!

Impressive (& Wacky) Beat-Em Up!, 19 Jan 2001
By A Customer
A great fighting game, with an impressive choice of player characters (with many, many more left to 'unlock'). I'm not a HUGE fan of fighting games, but am a big comics fan and being able to play the X-Men along with the Hulk, Spider-Man, Captain America etc. really appealed to me. The game is very fast and furious, with 2D fighting action set in beautifully animated 3D environments. Much less 'fussy' than some of the fully 3D fighters, and much more 'classy', with gorgeous anime style sprites and special moves. With characters like Sabretooth and Silver Samurai to unlock, this one will keep me playing for a while...It also greatly entertained a group of gaming friends who preferred it over most of my other multi-player Dreamcast games......Definately one to consider, and only now starting to get the recognition it deserves...
