Amazon.co.uk Review
During the 1980s, Wisdom Of Harry's Pete Astor was noted for soporific, leather-panted Creation bands
The Loft and their harder, rockier brethren
The Weather Prophets. Since the mid-1990s, the moody singer has been collaborating with Wurlitzer Jukebox-style acts (
Mogwai,
Broadcast, etc) and creating even more laid-back music as a result. Only now with beats and a distinct cinematic feel added.
House Of Binary is a slightly anonymous, minimalist excursion into the world of trnce-dance. It meanders, in the way only someone who owns his own studio (Bigfoot, with its old Atari and reel-to-reels) can meander. Drum machines, quiet vocals, sampled sound and dubbed beats are the order of the day on tracks like "Caesar Boots" and "Disco C" (which pays tribute to Kraftwerk five years after everyone else). This is a fine, if rather pointless, album.
