Product Description

CD Description

NO STYLE is an eight-song eclectic mix. Half of the tracks are from King Biscuit Time's first EP. The album opens with the catchy "I Walk The Earth". "Untitled" is a vibrant journey through the sounds of a trippy electric piano. The next cut, "I Love You", is a soft, harmonic ballad rooted deep in dark textures and deep bass sounds. On "Time To Get Up", theacoustic guitar and vibrating harmonic subtleties create a moving gloomy atmosphere only heightened by the distant vocals. Four other songs round out the EP. While NO STYLE is notfor everyone, contrary to the EP's title, King Biscuit Timehave plenty of style.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Return of the King, 7 April 2006
By Chas (Winchester, UK) - See all my reviews
Although 'No Style' is now a few years old, the imminent release of the first King Biscuit Time album provides a good opportunity to look back at an early masterwork. Steve Mason's second solo offering (coming after 'Sings Nelly Foggit's blues in 'Me and the pharaohs'') proves what many people believed was true of the Beta Band - that their most fully realised, coherent, and experimental work was produced within the boundaries of an EP. Arguably, the 'Three Eps' represented the peak of the Beta's career, with their subsequent albums receiving mixed critical and public response (Although I would recommend them to anyone - each an overlooked modern pop masterpiece). 'No Style' sees Mason on top form, from the shuffling thumping beats of opener 'I walk the earth' to the chilled acoustic ambience of 'I love you'. Standout track for me is the closer, 'Time to get up'. A beautiful, haunting song that his finest solo offering yet. As with all Beta/King Biscuit/Mason releases, expectations are high for the new album 'Black gold'. I'm quietly confident that like all of Mason's work, it will be a mini-masterpiece. Whether or not the record buying public take any notice, is an entirely different matter. All hail the Return of the King.
