Dutch the Gathering has always walked their path not copying any other artist. Their newest effort If_then_else takes the listener to the world of 70-es technique and 90-es approach meaning that the album is recorded with Vintage analog tape-recorder and mixed with computers. Nice brass and violins give the atmosphere of natural and organic sound while metal guitars go through the walls. Superb combination of metal and atmosphere!

If you own any of the Gathering's Anneke Van Giersbergen-era albums, you'll more or less know what to expect from them. If not, "If then else" is an eclectic slice of electronic trip rock, with outstanding female vocals, eccentric and often dark lyrics, and varied but interesting music. "if..." is rockier than their two most recent albums ("souvenirs" and "home"), with songs such as first single "Rollercoaster" packing a reasonable guitar-lead punch. There are, however, plenty of their more introspective and unique songs, particularly the stand out "Amity", featuring stunning vocals and a catchy keyboard riff. The insane "Analog Park" is another very impressive highlight which really grows on you, partiularly some of the vocal and guitar sections which are brilliant. There's also a rather mad section at the end quoted from Alice in Wonderland, which adds to the psychadelic feel of parts of the album. The band have even included violins, cello and even brass instruments in some songs, which gives the album a very eclectic feel. It's perhaps not their best album, but its certainly worth a listen, for Anneke's beautiful, varied and inventive vocals, and their interestingly experimental music.

i love this album, anneke has a really beautifull voice and the band sound amazing together. the first two songs have mindnumbing guitar parts, which get slowly softer later on in the album. like i said, the vocals are amazing. this is one of their best albums, finishing with an amazingly atmospherical instrumental.
