1.0 out of 5 stars Horrid sequel to a popular RPG, 7 Nov 2003

Words and gestures alone fail to describe this dire RPG that bares scant resemblance to the well crafted original. Alundra 2 is imbued with feeble graphics that are visually abhorrent, poor characterisation and an uninspired in-game menu. Another feature that scrapes the bottom of the barrel is the jerky, confused camera angles that require constant adjustment in order to retain orientation. Combat is boring and repetitive and is accompanied by a substandard storyline. Still interested? You get to play the part of Flint the pirate hunter, or should that be manure hunter? Even if you see this game lurking in the bargain bucket I would still advise taking a wide detour as this game is AWFUL.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and even tiresome, 15 Nov 2002
By Karura (Kent) - See all my reviews

Alundra 2 is an action RPG set in a fully 3D world. You take on the role of pirate hunter Flint, whose job it is to help a princess win back her father's kingdom from the evil baron and his sorcerer (standard stuff, really). In order to so, you must use your oversized sword and a portion of brainpower to hack and think your way through various dungeons. And even if you think you enjoy that kind of thing, you won't enjoy Alundra 2.
Everything about this game is almost painful to endure. At face value, the graphics and voice acting are awful, with the 3D environment requiring you to rotate the camera every three seconds just to see where you're going. However, the problems run deeper than this.

Gameplay is divided into two parts- battle and puzzle solving. Battles in Alundra 2 are a chore; each time you knock down an enemy they become temporarily untouchable whilst you leave yourself open to attack- not a good thing when it's three against one. Although later in the game you will have the chance to learn combo moves and ranged elemental attacks, these do not serve to make battles any more fun.

Likewise, the puzzle solving aspect of the game has little to offer. Most of the in-game puzzles are fairly pedestrian, and involve flipping combinations of switches and pushing blocks around. By the time you reach the last few dungeons, however, they become ridiculously difficult and frustrating, with the aforemnetioned blocks and switches now part of tedious mazes of spikes, lava and spiked balls.

The mini-games are also an overall disappointment; whilst one or two are fun (such as throwing darts at a local pub), most of them are just as frustating and dull as the main game.

Overall, Alundra 2 is a derivative and totally unoriginal example of the action RPG genre that is more often frustrating than fun and has little to no resemblance to its predecessor. Even if, or in fact, especially if you enjoyed the original Alundra, this is a game to avoid.

2.0 out of 5 stars Alundra 2..., 3 Nov 2003
By A Customer
Alundra 2 has to be a big dissapointment for me, only because i loved the first game much much more. this is how bad i think it is, i bought it and i played on it for 2 hours only. before buying please see demos or videos of the game, - if you want a sequal to the previous game. P.S. they are both totally different.
