4.0 out of 5 stars A bitter sweet story about misunderstood adolescents, 26 Feb 2001
By A Customer
I was very surprised that how the film began was far from how I expected it to continue. It begins by giving a very generalised and predictable opinion of young adolescents lives. However, as the film continues you realise that underneath the tough exterior of these young Parisian lads, there is actually a very sensitive and misunderstood side to their characters. The love interest of the main character allows herself to be drawn into this persons confusion about himself and how people perceive him. So with his paranoia about this and her guilt for labelling him, the film makes for very interesting watching, and two very incompatible people find that they have a lot in common. The other characters provide a very funny and juvenile look at young men and all the taboos that lads hate to talk about are included in this film. A must see for people who want to reflect and laugh at how they must have been in their youth. This film is both funny and serious and very well directed. The charater played by Olivia Bonamy(Lydie)is both beautiful and intelligent and despite this you could still relate to her vulnerability when forced to sympathise with the "Arab from Paris."

5.0 out of 5 stars Magnifique!, 26 Feb 2001
By A Customer
An excellent, funny and compelling yarn about 4 boys from the banlieue of Paris winning a holiday to the posh resort of Biarritz in south-west France. Prepare for much Gallic humour and sharp wit as well as mad dialogue such as "If I had a Hyena as a friend he wouldn't throw socks at me". Also contains possibly the most beautiful woman the world has ever seen, who gets attracted to one of the boys; Yousef, however, the course of true love never runs smoothly. Highly Recommended.
