Product Description
Amazon.co.uk Review
Egypt: Voyage to the Land of the Pharaohs is an interesting history lesson marred by an overly artistic interface. In terms of the content itself, we had a great time viewing and listening to this fascinating tour of the geography, civilisation, history and artefacts of Egypt. The CD-ROM is packed with images and narrated videos, and clicking a picture takes us directly to pages of text with more detailed information about what we were viewing. These text descriptions are full of hyperlinks which lead to specific information about words, people or places referred to in the main documents, and we spent hours jumping from page to page just following our interests.

The still images are stunning in their quality, in terms of both colour reproduction and detail. It wasn't hard to imagine we were in a museum looking at the actual objects. Unfortunately, the videos aren't as great. They are colourful and the narration is outstanding, but they exhibit the grainy quality associated with compressed video that doesn't allow for much detail.

All this information simply begs for an intuitive and practical interface, but the controls for this software are unwieldy. Navigation can be slow, the button labels don't make much sense and the skimpy manual doesn't help matters. The program also crashed when we tried to fast-forward or rewind the videos. That said, if you can live with the video errors and have the patience to decipher the interface, there's enough on this CD-ROM to keep budding Egyptologists busy for weeks. Those of you with DVD-ROM drives should know that a DVD-ROM version of this product is also available. --T Byrl Baker, Amazon.com
