Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Combining the depth of a detailed simulation and the tactical challenges of the finest war game, Fighting Steel re-creates the most spectacular naval gunnery battles of WWII from 1939-1942. Command ships from the British, German, American and Japanese fleets, everything from a single ship to a Task Force consisting of several divisions in real-time action! Combat takes place in a true 3-D world. All ships are fully rendered and textured 3-D models, providing a high level of detail and extreme realism. An auto-camera allows the player to view the action from many different camera angles without losing sight of critical events as they unfold. Detailed combat and manoeuvring systems accurately simulate naval surface combat, while the powerful and easy-to-use interface allows the player to concentrate on strategy and tactics. Historical scenarios, campaign games, computer-generated scenarios and a scenario editor make for hundreds of hours of intense gameplay.

1.0 out of 5 stars Flawed Brilliance., 9 Oct 2000
By Mr. R. Long - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
At first sight (and first play) this is a superb game. It's tremendous fun, very challenging and supports single battle or campaign mode. The ships are accurately modelled and researched, and look great. It's after a few days of playing that the holes start to appear, and they are monsters. The selection of single battles is pitiful, certain campaigns do not offer the full range of ships (leaving you hugely disadvantaged when playing as Japanese, for example), the weather does not work properly, and the graphics are error-ridden. I downloaded the patch, which crashed my game. I reinstalled and downloaded again, and this time the patch worked, wrecking the game graphics entirely in the process. Multiplayer should be tremendous - but it is so badly flawed it is totally unplayable.

As I stated at the beginning, the game itself is brilliant. But it is too full of mistakes to be a great game - and the publishers should be ashamed for releasing a game so many bugs. When are they going to learn that we won't settle for it any more?
