5.0 out of 5 stars The best game ever, 16 Aug 2001
Hi my names Sarah before i damaged my leg,i used to go dancing and horesriding.I love horesriding, and the first stables i went to were great but they had to shut down so i found anouther place but i was just not what i had expected they gave me the hardest horse,i think they lady expected me to be able to do jumps and what not.At my old stables we just went out on rides and gromed and saddled the horses and i really was not ready for what they set me.So eventually i quit and a couple of months later i ended up in hospital for a leg operation that ment i might not be able to dance or ride again.Anyway my mum went in to blockbuster to get a game for my brother and she saw the game"Mary kings Riding star" its brilliant seen as how i can't ride a real horse it's been the best playstation game ever. It's a great game because u can groom and feed and saddle up Star(the horse)and you can ride him in 10 different event's of dressage,cross-country and show jumping and i find it so much fun and i spend every minute spare on it.So i reccommend this game to everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Next Best Thing To Owning Your Own Pony!!!, 30 Dec 2001
By Mrs N C Moxon (Hertfordshire,United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
My daughter received this game for Christmas. Needless to say I am enjoying it very much too!!!
It takes a little while to get used to the controls which are a bit tricky to get the hang of, (although there are 6 different controller settings available and you choose which is the best one for you). One press of the speed button makes your pony walk, the second press trots, the third canters, and the fourth gallops. The slow down button takes you back one pace with each press ie. if you were in galloping mode, one press would take you back to cantering; if you were in walking mode your slow down button would make you halt. Pressing either button up to 4 times quickly will make you gallop, or halt, respectively.
In multiplayer mode, you can keep replaying as a single player which gives you the most practice at the events. You can also choose your own pony out of eight pre-programmed ponies, type names of your choice for both pony and rider. (For other mums the same age as me - it just has to be Black Beauty!!!)
In championship mode you have to muck out the stable, feed and water your pony, groom and saddle him up, as well as letting him out into the paddock, and putting him in the stable at night- between each event!!!!
The training mode gives you the most practice at controlling your pony. Although if you step out of the arena - as with the main events - you are instantly disqualified, and are returned to the stable yard.

The only thing I would say against this product is that there isn't a first person mode, it doesn't actually give you a rider's eye view. However, I would much rather pretend I'm watching myself ride!!!
This really is the next best thing to riding a real horse!!! (We have to wait for our next summer holiday to go pony trekking!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Provides hours of fun!, 28 Jul 2000
By Duaa Anwar "Dressage rider/ Author" (Cairo, Egypt) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
At last a video game for us equestrians! The animation is great and the sound effects are pretty good too. The game is divided into 2 phases, the training phase and the championship phase. The scoring is based on 3-day eventing scoring system since the game offers dressage, showjumping, and cross country. In the championship phase, you get to choose the horse you want, name him, participate in an event against other riders. After each competition, you have to care for your horse, grooming him and feeding him, and perhaps letting him play freely in the paddock. This is essential for the well-being of your horse and it will affect your performance on the next competition. All-in-all, a great game but may need some work on the visual stimulation aspect of it if another version is to be made.
