Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
WWF Attitude is just like its subjects: big. Over 40 World Wrestling Federation wrestlers--with bigger-than-life bodies and personalities to match--take to the ring, including The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker, D-Generation X and Triple H. Wrestle as an individual or tag team, create your own pay-per-view event, or choose from a wide variety of options for matches and gameplay.

As the wrestlers comes out, their theme music is played, and they go through their trademark moves. From there the action gets a little slow. While the crowd sounds very realistic, the actual moves are executed rather slowly. Plus Acclaim has included a function that causes the wrestlers to lock arms if they get too close. This is designed to keep a player from using the same moves over and over again. It doesn't work--an entire match can be won by just hitting the kick button. What it does do is force numerous arm locks that do little damage and can turn monotonous. However, executing a great move like a body slam is cool--when it works.

Hard-core professional wrestling fans will appreciate the accurate character models and faithful reproductions of signature moves of their favourite wrestlers. While those who are into fast and furious wrestling action will be better served looking elsewhere, fans who enjoy watching the pros will enjoy this game's cinematic attitude. --Allen Stewart

Pros:

  • Excellent graphics
  • Great crowd noise
  • Awesome moves--when they work
  • Huge cast of wrestlers
Cons:
  • Slow gameplay
  • Same basic move used over and over
  • Basic moves are slow, and exciting moves are hard to execute

4.0 out of 5 stars WWF Attitude - Outdated but Still Tops, 29 Aug 2000
By A Customer
When it was released Attitude was the best wrestling sim on the market, it was leagues ahead of its predacessor 'Warzone'. The specs included, better graphics, an updated roster, and a whole host of new gimmicks. Recently we've seen the release of Smackdown and Smackdown II will follow shortly, as with Attitude - a whole host of new features have been included, such as, a further updated roster and more freedom with match scenario's including the famous ladder match. Attitude is still a great game but only if you can pick it up at the right price

3.0 out of 5 stars For the light-hearted wrestling fan, 20 Nov 2006
Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This game is definitely a good game for it's 1999 release - although now it is years out of date, it can still be quite an entertaining experience.

The Good: The create-a-superstar is probably one of the best aspects of the game, especially the profile sections, where, in a personality section you can edit voices for your superstar, then some hilarious custom sound tracks, as well as the entrance themes of the approx. 40 superstars on the game. There are also good ways to modify the match-ups in the menus, e.g. if you have a triple threat match you can choose whether to have it as an elimination, 2-out-of-3 falls or just a plain 3-way bout. Also, the first game to include the Royal Rumble, which is pulled off ok-ish. Sound on this version imparticular is good, there are lots of crowd chants and the wrestlers have a few words of their own. The superstars' costumes are detailed, and each wrestler comes with 4 variations.

The Bad: Well nowadays obviously you'll point out the graphics are bad, but the gameplay is not great, and that's definitely not something you can blame on age (as people who have played the superb No Mercy will know) it is slow, hard to master the fiddly sequences just to perform a suplex or DDT let alone a Rock Bottom or Tombstone. Also it's very slow compared to the SmackDown series, the visuals are sometimes as if you're playing a game underwater. As tricky as these moves are, you don't even have to master them to be a champion on this game. The whole object of these is defeated by the fact that constantly hitting punch could eventually have your opponent out for the count.

The Ugly: The graphics. Now, on the PsOne version the graphics are blocky and the shadowing and textures are sloppy. On the Nintendo64 and Dreamcast versions however, the graphics are much smoother and the textures are smoother. On this version, though, the graphics are definitely the worst (obviously excluding the GBC version) and the superstars faces, when not close up, look very hard to make out. Every wrestler is the same height and nearly all are the same size in muscle. The hands and feet are very jagged and blocky.

Overall, if you want a decent wrestling experience, look into the SmackDown series. But if you are of the nostalgiac persuasion or a collector or even if you want to have some fun easily creating a few superstars, this could be for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Attitude (Good or bad?), 2 Jan 2001
By t_nicholson87@hotmail.com (Northampton, England) - See all my reviews
WWF Attitude is a good game, but is getting outdated by Smackdown and Smackdown 2, but is still worth atleast £15 or so. The controls are different from Smackdown an Smackdown 2, but are still pretty easy. Create-A-Wrestler is good, and career mode is quite easy. Although it is slow compared to other games, it is still a good game all round.
