5.0 out of 5 stars Music to blow your mind, 28 April 2004
By Mr Mark F Bolland (Rugby, Warwickshire ,United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Voyages (Audio CD)
Paco Sery - from the Ivory Coast, but based in Paris - is one of the mostoutstanding drummers you will ever hear - but he seems to be able to playall sorts of other instruments as well. This CD is amazing. Themusicianship and orchestration result in a wildly exciting mix of funk, jazz, rai and hip-hop (with a decidedly French accent) - based around thetightest of rhythm sections of Paco Sery and various bassists (includinghimself). I have been listening to this CD for over a year now and Istill find new bits to excite (even my wife loves it!). Personally I amreally looking forward to his next album!!!!
The CD is usually going to be tagged in the 'world music' category. Don'tlet this put you off (it shouldn't anyway - you'll be missing out on allsorts of wonderful music) - the CD opens with a riff that James Brownwould be proud of.
I bought this CD 'on spec' and I haven't regretted it for a moment.
