5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Fights, 5 Mar 2002
By A Customer
This tournament took place in the early years of mixed-martial-arts. Many of the fighters weren't anywhere near as skilled as today's athletes.

Even so, this is a great 'old school' event. The only rules are 'no biting' and 'no gouging' - Anything else is allowed.

Eight fighters compete in the tournament, with the winner having to fight three men in the same night. In the first round, four Ukrainians face off against four huge Americans (in some cases giving a weight mismatch of over 100 pounds, and a height mismatch of 12").

All the fights end with a KO, stoppage, or submission.

Most importantly, one of the entrants in the tournament was Igor Vovchanchyn - perhaps the most devastating puncher in the sport. It's worth owning this DVD just to see his explosive fights.

The DVD also includes a 30 minute feature, showing more of Igor's fights.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bang! lights out., 28 Aug 2003
One of the best No Holds Barred dvd's available in this country (up to now).
A tournament from Keiv Ukraine as part of the International Fighting Championships (IFC) tour.
This for many was the first glimpse of Igor (ice cold) Vovchancyn who went on to be one of the most devastating punchers in the sport.
This dvd pretty much has it all, Knockouts (one in particular is quite literally ONE PUNCH) Submissions and some out and out beatings most involve Igor.
All in all well worth the money if your a NHB fan and if your not then I'm pretty sure this would change your mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars The First International Fighting Championship, 8 April 2006
By jeetkunekid (St. Austell, Cornwall, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This was the first event of the IFC (International Fighting Championship) and features some of the best nhb fights I have ever seen. The DVD cover eagerly entices you to witness Igor Vovchanchyn's "greatest ever fights", and they certainly are memorable to Igor fans.

The tournament features eight fighters with one champion at the end of the night. The winner will have fought three times in one night. So, basically it is the same format as the early UFC tournaments. IFC 1 Kombat in Kiev is refereed by Andy Anderson, a Tae Kwon Do olympic referee and veteran of UFC 5.

My favourite fighter of the event is Igor Vovchanchyn. He is a Kick Boxing expert from Ukraine and he is now recognised as one of the most accomplished and feared fighters in the world. At 5,8" tall and weighing about 207lbs, he was fighting huge opponents in this tournament, including UFC veteran Paul Varelans, a 6,8", 300lb monster of a man. That's about a foot taller and 123lbs heavier than Igor! However Vovchanchyn is very strong for his weight and with explosivness and Kick Boxing skills that were unmatched on this night. This is a classic match that has to be seen if you like No Holds Barred.

Overall, IFC1 is worth buying because it was a landmark MMA event and features classic fights in a classic tournament. All the fights end in a legitimate finish and the DVD is worth buying just to see Igor Vovchanchyn in some of his greatest MMA fights.
