The thrill of the Jurassic Park name will be enough to pull many people into this game, as will the promise of taking on the mantle of the mighty T-Rex, but you only get your claws on the King of predators for a handful of levels. The player begins the game as the chicken-sized Compsognathus making its way through the pleasingly rendered landscape of Jurassic Park. There are power-ups to consume and a cast of dinosaurs to snap at and feast upon to recover health. The frustration comes when you're stuck with the cute little Compy for a third of the game's 40 levels. Eventually you get to be a deadly Velociraptor, a rifle-armed human, and of course the T-Rex. The inability to choose when you take on these roles at your leisure can be a highly limiting factor.Electronic Arts deserves applause for attempting to enliven the platform genre. The viewpoint spins around the player character at intervals and the dinosaurs and landscape all look good, graphically. There's also something innately satisfying about invoking the roar of the T-Rex at the touch of a button, but therein lies much of the problem with The Lost World--it's all bark and no bite. For the most part this is a side on platformer with a couple of twists to make it briefly interesting, but remaining high on frustration and low on tantalising gameplay. The more experienced player will look to sink their fangs into something meatier, although younger players may find a route to more advanced gaming among the trees of The Lost World. --Mark Wright
