This album continued the renaissance of Shirley Bassey in the early 70s, and it's in my opinion, the best of the lot. So far, three others have been made available on CD: "Something" which started the whole comeback, and is superb throughout except for "My Way" (a song I personally can't stand no matter what singer); "Something Else" which is also brilliant if not as astonishing; "And I Love You So" which is the weakest if only for the fact that the selections were a bit unoriginal.

"I Capricorn", on the other hand, boasted her most original repertoire yet on one album. These songs were not often covered except for two Bacharachs, and many became her signature songs. The album created a consistently romantic mood. If you think Bassey is all flair and no depth, listen to this album and change your mind.

The winning formula created by "Something" is intact here: lush but tasteful orchestrations, solid and sometimes fiery rock-band backup, and Bassey's beautifully recorded voice which can't do anything but shine. If "Something" was a pivotal album in Bassey's career, "I Capricorn" was simply one of her best.

By the next album (And I Love You So), she seemed to be intimidated by newcomers like Roberta Flack and Karen Carpenter. Too bad she never again established her credibility for the remainder of the decade like Streisand did, and has to wait all these years for Propellerheads.

A classic remastered recording from 1972. Every track 5star. Standout tracks are I Capricorn, Greatest Performance Of My Life and For All We Know (which totally eclipsed the Carpenters version in the UK chart). You will never hear better recordings of show tunes such as Where Am I Going and Where Is Love. Buy this CD and hear what BASSEY is all about!.
