Buy this double CD. That is my first point! At this excellent price, and given the fact that you get two CDs of quality music to boot, I certainly recommend it to all.

However, be aware that this collection is not really what I would consider to the the true Best of Shriekback. It is actually a collection of music from the 'Y Records' years as the inlay puts it. Of course, there are some great tracks in there, but I would recommend that you look into specific albums instead such as 'Big Night Music' and / or 'Oil and Gold'.

I agree with the previous review in that a true 'Best of..' would need to include tracks like 'Hand on my heart..' and 'Fish below the ice' off later albums. However, this comp does contain their 3 best ever tracks, 'All lined up', 'My spine is the bassline' and 'Accretions'. These are 3 of the best examples of damn cool funkiness in any genre. They were initially touted as the UK answer to Talking Heads but never became more than a cult act which was a shame. Some of their stuff might have been too angular an harsh for some tastes. If you like the Heads (Remain in Light & Fear of Music era), Gang of Four (the bassist's former band)plus dirty elastic bass and complex polyrhythms this should do the biz.
