Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Nicolas Cage plays Randall "Memphis" Raines, a former legendary car thief (who could guarantee any car "gone in 60 seconds") drawn back into the life to save his younger brother from an unfortunate fate. Surprisingly, the music accompanying this car-centric action film isn't the high-speed chase you might expect. Instead, it's a diverse, textured amalgam of styles from the heated polemics of Ice Cube (the explicit version of "Roll All Day" is on the soundtrack, the censored version is in the film) to the art rock of Gomez ("Machismo") and the acclaimed electronica of the Chemical Brothers. Perennial soundtrack contributor Moby delivers the previously unreleased moody trip-out "Flower", while the Cult perform songwriter-for-hire Diane Warren's "Painted on My Heart", which is essentially the AOR the band once sought all those years ago. Best are the collaborations: Groove Armada, featuring M.A.D.; handle "Rap", an ominous, layered, keyboard-based rap; and BT, featuring Soul Coughing's M. Doughty, up the beat cycle slightly for the psychedelically driving and heavily melodic "Never Gonna Come Back Down". --Rob O'Connor

3.0 out of 5 stars Great car movie, great car music, 10 Sep 2000
By dave@davehunt.co.uk (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
The film was a sublime blend of fast cars and a race against the clock, the soundtrack CD takes you back to various edge of your seat moments from the film. Two particular favourites of mine have to be track 1 and 3, and of course everyone loves the unmistakable "Can't Stop The Rock" by Apollo 440. The other tracks are fine, and smoothly blend the best ones together. On first listen I wasn't too impressed but after listening a second time I can't wait to put it back in my CD player again. Oh, for other Nick Cage fans out there.. one track has a quote from the film with Nick saying "Oh my god" and oh boy does it take me right back into the theatre.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect compliment to the movie of the summer!, 13 Aug 2000
By A Customer
The soundtrack to Jerry Bruckheimers hi-octane summer blockbuster opens in fine style with a beautiful rock ballad, ''Painted On My Heart'' by British band The Cult. ''Machismo'' by Gomez is a rare slice of musical genius, using a quirky sample and an gentle but addictive guitar lilt. Moby continues to follow his impressive form of late with the the soothing gopsel samples of ''Flower''. Groove Armada prove their musical talents stretch beyond dance music with a smooth rap cut, simply entitled ''Rap'', and featuring guest vocals by M.A.D. The Chemical Brothers are as superlative as ever with ''Leaving Home''. Method Man and Redman collaborate to produce an interesting, if short, hip-hop track, ''Da Rockwilder''. Veteran rapper Ice Cube lands in the middle of the soundtrack with a bang. ''Roll All Day'' features his trademark harsh vocals voicing a suitably automotive theme. Alternative rock is well represented by Caviar, with their psychadelic track ''Sugarless''. BT provides the high point of the album, in collaboration with M. Doughty. ''Never Gonna Come Back Down'' is a fast, thumping, energetic piece of dance music which is greatly enhanced by Doughty's superb vocals. A3 take the tone down a few notches with the mellow but serious ''Too Sick To Pray''. DMX's ''Party Up'' (Up In Here) is an upbeat and catchy hip-hop track. Apollo 440's successful single ''Stop The Rock'' will already be familiar to many listeners, but no amount of familiarty can detract from this old-fashioned piece of British electronica. Citizen King's ''Better Days (And The Bottom Drops Out)'' is featured in remixed form, adding fast drum 'n bass beats to this standout track. Trevor Rabin wraps up proceedings with the amazing ''Boost Me''. A potent mix of rock and electronica, this track will be most familiar to those who have seen the movie, as it is heard several times in the course of the action.

Overall, this is one of the best soundtracks I have heard in a long time, featuring an incredibly diverse and eclectic mix of music. Definitely recommended for any serious music fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars top soundtrack from a top film, 5 Sep 2000
this is one of those soundtracks where you don't need to see the film to appreciate the album. another exquistie track from moby and the cool brit-rap of groove armada stand out from the rest. there is plenty to satisfy dance, hip hop and rock fans with them all blending together seamlessly. 11 top tunes out of 14. definatley worth it. full of life and energy.
