Synopsis

After inadvertently freeing an evil Djinn from his gemstone prison, an auction house gemologist fights to bring his rampages to an end, as they include stealing the souls of the hapless humans whose wishes bring them to ironic early ends. Heavy on the computer-assisted effects, with some mitigating touches, such as Ted Raimi in a cameo and Englund as a stodgy art collector. Craven acted as Executive Producer, but later removed his name.

5.0 out of 5 stars A hell of a lot of fun, 9 Nov 2000
By A Customer
After many years of being trapped in a gem an evil genie, a Djinn is released into our world. Basically if the person that awakened him, Alexandra Amberson makes three wishes he will destroy humanity as we know it. Along the way to trying to get Aleexandra to do this the Djinn grants a number of of other people wishes but twists their word so as they die... Painfully. It may sound nasty but I can assure you this is a brilliant film. Its kitsch, at times funny and you are guarenteed to enjoy it, if you have a strong stomach that is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some actors can play better baddies than evil itself!, 6 Jan 2004
Andrew Divoff is brilliant! He brought the corniest and goriest movie since 'weird' exellent. It's funny, smart and very inventive with this sophisticated vision of evil tearing throuhg your TV. This also applies for it's not original sequal. Wes Craven certainly redeemed himself after that awfull film 'last house on the left' Banned for twenty years. It should of stayed that way it was boring!
Well it just proofs the title SOME ACTORS CAN TRULY PLAY BETTER BADDIES THAN EVIL ITSELF!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Fun Film!!, 5 Mar 2003
Great Fun. With interesting twists with wishes. Andrew Divoff is excellent as the Genie. My only dissapointment is that the film is a little too short and is not anamorphic or widescreen. But on the plus side, the DVD does have some good extras including an audio commentary (which surprisingly omits to point out the cameo from the Friday the 13th Jason bloke).

Overall: Enjoy. Just avoid the dire sequels.
