Pay attention, class. Your source text for the term is this two-disc collection. When you have digested all 28 movie scores represented, we will begin our Horror History lesson. The selected films are genuinely significant benchmarks for the genre: The Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, The Omen, Halloween, Poltergeist, Hellraiser, and Bram Stoker's Dracula to name but a few. In the context of the chronological order the collection presents, these examples shine out as mould-breaking musical milestones. Others scattered in between may not have been quite so huge steps forward (The Devil Rides Out, Nightmare On Elm Street, The Sixth Sense), but without exception make for uniquely "creepy" listening. The hope, of course, is that each recalls the darkest and most uncomfortable moments of their given films--or, alternatively, create brand new spine-tingling experiences for those you haven't seen (shame on you). As a night's revision material it should at the very least encourage you to more fully research your subject.--Paul Tonks
