Product Description

Synopsis

George Mallory and Andrew Irvine were last seen at 12.50pm on the 8th June 1924 high on the slopes of Mount Everest. They were 240 metres form the summit and 'going strong for the top'. What exactly happend to the two climbers has remained a mystery for 75 years. This programme follows the BBC sponsored expedition to the North Face of Mount Everest in March 1999 in the search of Mallory and Irvine.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Truth is Out There !, 27 Oct 2001
By A Customer
As a sceptic on the subject of whether George Mallory and Andrew Irvine were the first to summit Everest, I started to watch Nova's video documentary "Lost On Everest - The Search For Mallory And Irvine" with just a little bias. However, I was impressed with the presentation's unbiased approach that didn't attempt to force any opinion on the viewer. The mission to search for the missing mountaineers using the already established facts concerning their disappearance was the films catalyst in the hope that further evidence (perhaps even a camera!) would answer the greatest enigma of mountaineering history. This video not only captures the discovery of the frozen remains of a 1920's climber's alabaster body, preserved in time with personal belongings which reveal further captivating clues to this great debate but also a great moment in history. My emotions were moved not only by the thoughts of what disaster had struck the climber but also as the search team respectfully reburied the body. Every mountain enthusiast will not only appreciate the current filming but also the archival footage of the 1924 expedition which adds greatly to the sense of history placing Mallory & Irvine's achievements in astonishing perspective to modern climbers with all their technical equipment. Further analysis of the new clues gleamed from this discovery and a small insight into Mallory's nature revels specific facts which may change the view of many a sceptic like myself. Although gripped by the uncertainty of it all, I found the need for further questions to be answered however, this did not detract from this video in any way, which I found to be enlightening, stirring and spellbinding and would highly recommend watching in order for the viewer to make up their own minds. Watching this video has not only stimulated my mind but has encouraged me to investigate this matter further. The truth is out there !
