4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Martial Arts Movie, 17 Jan 2001
Donnie Yen makes his screen debut in this odd yet innovative production from the great Yuen Woo Ping. The story follows Ching (played by Donnie Yen) who upsets the son of local nobleman (Wong Tao). This begins a rivalry between them that results in pyscho hitman (Yuen Shin Yee) being hired to wipe out Ching and his family. Returning to find his home destroyed and family killed Ching is left to fend for himself on the streets. It's here he meets Tai chi master (Yuen Chung Yan) who takes pity on him and gives him a home. After a close encounter with the hitman the Tai chi master decides to pass on his skills to Ching in the hope they can help him take his revenge on those who murdered his family. The Yuen brothers give great performances in this highly entertaining martial arts movie. It's not action packed but the fight scenes are really well done and it's filled with the type of humour you would expect from Woo Ping. Not bad at all...
