Regis Gizavo is a fine accordionist and a superb singer. He is also well served by one of the most discreetly imaginative rhythm sections imaginable.

The album covers a range of styles from the oddly percussive and very catchy title track (with its astounding drumming) to some wistful and gentle melodies. I don't understand a word he's singing, but not only do I find myself singing along with many of the songs, some even turn up unbidden when I'm not listening to the album.

Although the accordion drives the music, much of the charm of this album is the ability of the bass and drums to settle into a groove and yet still manage to be extremely creative. It has the infectious catchiness of cajun music and the danceability of the best African music.

This deserves to be much more widely known. It's one of the very best albums to come out of Africa in recent years.
