Product Description

CD Description

Despite having releases available mostly on import, the Finnish metal band HIM has inspired an incredibly loyal cult following in the United States. In late 2003, Universal reissued this, the group's sophomore album from 2000 (which reportedly sold over a million copies in Europe), with two remixedtracks from HIM's debut and one new song. Combining elements of vintage glam, old-school goth, and classic rock, with afew modern touches sprinkled in, the ensemble provides potent accompaniment to frontman Ville Valo's tortured singing.
HIM's dynamic music is based on an infectious blend of metallic riffs and goth keyboards. Mixing hard rock anthems with softer ballads, the band allows Valo to wax poetic (almost psychotic) about tragic love ("Join Me in Death"), romantic fatalism ("I Love You [Prelude to Tragedy]"), and monstrous obsession ("Right Here in My Arms"). While HIM's memorablerendition of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" may lack the fluidity of the original, it packs a strong wallop and fits nicely within the oeuvre. Straight-ahead, stripped down, and emotionally volatile, the music of HIM, combined with Valo's brooding persona and the group's patented "heartagram" symbol, make them a perfect fit for the retro-rock revival.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best!, 1 April 2006
After listening to all of HIM's albums, I have to say, (while 'Deep Shadows...' comes close) this is the best of the lot. One of those, again, with something for everyone - some heavier and some softer songs, all individual and not samey like some albums tend to be, and all really rather beautiful.

'Bury Me Deep Inside Your Heart' stands out as a particularly lovely song on this disc; Valo's lyrics and vocals are full of emotion in this track and whenever I hear it, I can't decided whether to smile or cry.
However, the best track by far (and possibly HIM's best song so far) has to be 'Razorblade Kiss'.

I'd highly recommend this to anyone just getting into HIM's music, as it really is the band at their very best. An absolutely essential purchase for any fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars No suprise, 22 Aug 2005
It's no suprise that this album is good HIM (in my opinion) are probably the best songwriters in the business they have had the consistency in every album. The lighter sided tracks are as always superb and the rocky ones are just as good.
The best tracks are Sweet 666, Poison Girl, Join me in death and Right here in my arms though the rest are definately not fillers.
For people wandering if it's as good as Love metal you will feel right at home.
No-one can give this album a bad rating.
I would suggest not to buy the greatest hits but to buy every album instead half of the songs that aren't on the greatest hits
are just as good as the ones that are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Brilliance!, 25 Aug 2000
This album is amazing from start to finish! Having heard their first two singles on German MTV 'Join Me In Death' and 'Right Here In My Arms' I was set on buying their album which was incredibly hard to find! After eventually finding it I've never stopped listening to it. The cover version of Chris Isaak's 'Wicked Game' is probably one of the best cover versions ever! Along with all the other tracks this album is worth its weight in gold. Buy it!
