Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

If your ears have been treated to the first three compilations in this series, it should come as no surprise to hear that the music emanating from your speakers will be damn sexy house. The mix is accessible--think Moloko's "Time Is Now" or a gospel influenced mix of De'Lacy's 1995 hands in the air classic "Hideaway". It's also melancholic (when the Basement Jaxx re-cycle chords from Remedy's "Stop 4 Love" to remix "We Don't Have to Be Alone" by Cooly's Hot box), funky (thanks to Kenny Dope's "Can You Handle It" and a collaboration between Groove Armada and Fat Boy Slim on "I See You Baby") and full of fitting surprises (Masters at Work's afro-beat tribute to Fela Kuti, "MAW Expensive"). Overall, Nu Kool 4 is a compilation with its finger on the pulse of all things new and cool--but with a distinct nod to sounds that always have been.--Ruby Sheppard

5.0 out of 5 stars Have not stopped playing it., 6 Dec 2000
By erik.van-der-goot@jrc.it (Lago Maggiore, Italy) - See all my reviews
A great album, both CDs are worth it with very few songs that I would have left out. On the whole it is funky, it swings, it has some great tracks, I particularly like the MAW and the Mondo Grosso tracks. Also the Groove Armada mix is very very good. I think the only irritating song for me is the 'Hideaway' track on CD1. I recently bought Groove Armada, Gilles Peterson, NuYorican soul, St Germain. This is NOT like any of these (expect for the Groove Armada track :-)) but I find myself swinging away on this album like I do on the others. Good Stuff. And highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most consistent Nu Cool...., 12 Nov 2005
By Scubaboy "sydwal" (Swansea, UK) - See all my reviews

Volume 4, sadly the last of the series is possibly the best - Mark Doyle always seems to sign off on a high with whatever he does (see Beach House 04.05) and this one's no exception.

Some truly brilliant tracks and difficult to find fault anywhere. For me the best track is the ultra-cool "Inner Side" by Shazz feat. Ken Norris - sounding remarkably like Roy Ayres (fans of the Nu Yorican Soul album will know what I'm talking about) - the song is completely irresistable in its grooviness.

The coolness doesn't dtop there with excellent contributions from Moloko, Stephanie Mills and Groove Armada. OK so "I See You Baby" from that car commercial is well worn but Nu Cool 4 was released in 2000, let's not forget.

Sad to see this series pass into Kandi history but Mark must surely be very proud of it. Get it now!
