Amazon.co.uk Review
If Eddie Murphy's comic tone turns on a dime, Martin Lawrence can perhaps be described as sauntering around the dime, looking around to see if anyone else has seen it, then picking the dime up, pocketing it, and casually walking off. He lazily indicates his humour, as if it's too much trouble to actually make the joke--and that distance is what makes him funny. At his best, Lawrence describes a kind of comic space and wanders around in it, claiming it for himself the way a dog might mark his territory, suggesting that what you think is funny doesn't matter to him; he just happens to be where the jokes are, and if you aren't laughing, that's your problem.

In Blue Streak, Lawrence plays a jewel thief who plants a stolen diamond in the ventilation duct of a building under construction. When he's released from prison a few years later, he discovers that the building is now a Los Angeles police station. His solution: he impersonates a detective. Of course, everyone believes his disguise. Not only that, using his inside knowledge, he solves several crimes and earns the general admiration of the force. It's a standard fish-out-of-water setup and the plot doesn't take any chances with the formula, but Lawrence wears his role like a loose suit and does a little low-key boogie whenever he can, drawing you into the absurdity with a cock of his head and a roll of his eyes. --Bret Fetzer, Amazon.com

4.0 out of 5 stars Martin Lawrence comes good again for all you Bad Boys fans., 7 Sep 2000
By A Customer
Having not seen a lot of Martin Lawrence previous to his role in Bad Boys I was a little dubious about how this DVD purchase may turn out, I shouldn't have worried. Lawrence is both original and funny and has you laughing out loud from start to finish, proving that his successful partnership in Bad Boys didn't rely on Will Smith alone. Comedy and action rolled into one, this film is well worth the money. And yes, you do find yourself quoting lines from it afterwards!

4.0 out of 5 stars Blue Streak, 15 Feb 2005

We thought Blue streak was a good movie. Martin Lawrence was very funny, the plot was easy to understand and the film moved at a good pace with plenty of action and silly moments. An all round fun family film.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Absolute Classic, 5 Oct 2004
By Greg Chapman (England, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Martin Lawrence heads not a well known cast but a fantastic one and makes the film so much more of a pleasure to watch. The plot is carefully and well planned out and integrates both seriousness of the crimes he commits and the trouble he gets into regarding drugs and the comedy of everything he does goes wrong. The film maes you feel sorry for Martin because of the trouble he has to go through but you love it when you realise what a good cop he turns out to be, and how much he enjoys it. THe film has a good and happy ending and it becomes one of the best and funnyest film made in a long time. Miss it Miss out!
