Well worth having, 4 Jun 2000

Although not as memorable a film as the first Demons, this is still a must for fans of Italian horror, not least because the film is superbly presented in widescreen and surround sound. Fans who have the old rental VHS version may remember a dialogue scene in which the soundtrack goes out of sync - this has been sorted out on the new print. Like the Demons DVD, the extras include commentary from director Lamberto Bava and behind-the-scenes footage of Dario Argento and his movies. The Demons 2 DVD also includes a short (15 min.)suspense film made for Italian TV by Bava and Argento in 1987 - surprisingly this isn't mentioned on the DVD's cover. Like the UK Demons DVD, you should be pleasantly surprised with this unheralded release.

JUST AS GOOD AS THE CLASSIC ORIGINAL, 2 Nov 2007
Guests gather in a loft apartment building for Sally Day's, (Coralina Cataldi Tassoni) birthday party. All the children who are supposed to be there, including Ingrid, (Asia Argento) Tommy, (Marco Vivo) and others, are hypnotized watching a TV show about demons. When the show depicts the demons coming to life and killing people, the same thing happens inside the apartment building. Trapped and with the demons slowly picking off the remaining humans inside, it becoming a fight for survival against the blood-thirsty creatures.
The Good News: While the original was one of the best Italian horror films at the time, this one is just as good. As with all Italian films of this style, the emphasis is on the gorgeous and gruesome make-up, and there is no shortage of that here. The style allows the film to wallow in the effects, making them an effective highlight whenever they are shown. The transformed demons look as good as the first one, complete with fang-lined maws, inhuman facial features, long claws and those glowing eyes form one cool monster, one that is perfectly suited to deliver a series of continued shocks. Even without the shocks, there are several great suspense moments in here that are deftly executed. The encounter between the lone woman in her apartment is the best example, as it's a series of small sequences that is a treat for suspense fans to witness. Another character trapped inside a closet while a demon lurks outside is just dripping with mood and atmosphere. Of course, most of the suspense is derived from the building itself, a proved inescapable fortress that no one can get in or out of, trapping everyone inside. Once the demons are out and killing, the pace picks up so considerably that three different plot-lines go on at the same time and allows for wall-to-wall action. The massacre in the parking lot is a perfect example, as it occurs within a large amount of time and allows for several great sequences. And lastly, a shocking TV gag early on is a great reason to see this movie.
The Bad News: It's not exactly an original movie, as it basically takes the exact same plot as the first one and puts it into a new building. It's not that big of a deal, but it is there and somewhat noticeable.
The Final Verdict: While not the classic the original is, this is a very worthy sequel. It goes more for action than anything else, and as such it allows for an easy view compared with the original. The TV sequence alone is enough to recommend it, and Italian fans will love this one in spite of it. The more adventurous will want to check it out, as it's a fairly good time.
