4.0 out of 5 stars worrying miracles, 5 April 2005
By Carlos Vazquez Quintana "cvq" (Linares- Spain) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This movie is very interesting because it poses the question if a saint is that we know commonly as a "good person". The answer in this film is: not necessarily, or at less I conclude in that. A Central European woman is supposed to make miracles from WW II, but she lives an irregular way of life in the USA when she has emigrated, so that is a big defy for Vatican authorities: the "miracles" true or not, causes an uncomfortably situation, and at the end of XX century, official Catholic Church doesn't like to feel uncomfortable. Father Frank Shore, superbly played by Ed Harris, plays a priest plenty of doubts, carnal, human and prone to drink, but truly, an honest man. That can't be said so easy of the German cardinal is I think as machiavelic as these priests from The Godfather. Only God can say where are the truth. Excellent and uncommon film for today times.
