Product Description

Manufacturer's Description
The graphics in Colin McRae Rally is excellent and incredibly varied. Colin McRae Rally takes you through 8 different countries in the world, each with 6 or 7 special stages and every one of the 54 special stages has its own character. From New Zealand's outback, through the mountain snow and tarmac stages of Monte Carlo, the beaches, paddy fields and rainforests of Indonesia, to the unpredictable UK stages, it is a graphical treat from start to finish. It is also very fast - you get a good sensation of speed in this game, as the scenery whizzes past you at a mind-boggling rate. In addition, the cars look very realistic; the car interior shakes about in response to what the car is doing, to simulate the driver head movement, but it never gets in the way of the action.

5.0 out of 5 stars Codemasters doing what they do best, 2 Mar 2002
By A Customer
At this price, Colin McRae Rally can not be beaten. It has amazingly realistic handling, loads of tracks & plenty of extra cars such as the audi quattro to unlock. There is even a mode to be trained by colin mcrae, which really does teach you how to drive a real rally car and improves your all round driving. The graphics look great, for a PSone game and even in two player mode there is a good draw distance. When this game was released it was the best rally game ever made, and now the only game to beat it is its sequel. I would recommend that you buy this game first though, as it has the excellent training mode & is a bit easier for new players.

5.0 out of 5 stars Close to perfect, 20 Mar 2001
This game is my favourite rally game ever. Where do I start? The graphics are superb still despite this game being about 2 years old. Gameplay is also fun and challenging with many different types of tracks and options available for those looking for long term appeal.

Though quite difficult to master in the later stages, newcomers will find definate enjoyment here, with the driving school option to allow players to master their skills on the track.

Now at this incredibly low price, I don't see any reason why everyone shouldn't own a copy of this classic title.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good place to start..., 17 Sep 2005

I used to hate racing games, with a vengeance. I'd tried all sorts of awful or hard to control racers, on pc's and a few early consoles, and gave up on them. Then Colin arrived at the same time as Gran Turismo; I loved rallying, and GT was hyped up to the clouds. So it was a dilemma. In the end my love of rallying won and I bought Colin. (I got GT a week later and hated the controls, and sold it on. Had I got it first I'd never have bought Colin, or any other racer since! As it is I've had every racer Codemasters have made - even the hideous Tommi Makinen one!)
I adored it from the first screen to the finishing credits.
The graphics were fab (Why do pc ones always look so flat, compared to a machine with less total processing power than most pc graphics cards - than some mobile phones for that matter?!) - from the rain and mud in the UK and New Zealand, the gravel and dust in Greece, snow in Sweden, etc.
The controls were a peach; responsive and clean.
The best thing though was the feel of the game. Now, this was without the force feedback most people expect now. But the slide of the car, and the perfect sound of the hiss of gravel in Greece, or the crunch of snow in Sweden, really made you feel you were there. (Sadly this was missing in the second edition - the roads looked like painted tarmac, regardless of the supposed surface.)
Do yourself a favour - relive history.
(Incidentally, I later bought the Japanese version of GT, and it was so much better than when the Americans got hold of it and souped up all the cars for the US/UK versions!)
