5.0 out of 5 stars UK version misses 40 minutes!!!, 7 Mar 2001
By A Customer
This is a great movie, but not for everyones nerves. When i watched it for the first time i was shocked. Extreme violance. On otherhand the story is great. The Spanish original version is 136 minutes long. German and US version 126 minutes. UK version, well, 96minutes!!!!!!!!! So beware. Amozon offers also a US version which is goold half and hour longer!

3.0 out of 5 stars Road movie where the kingdom of Oz becomes virgin sacrafice., 13 Sep 2000
By A Customer
Barry Gifford, the man behind David Lynch's classic's WILD AT HEART and LOST HIGHWAY has had his book '59 & Raining' adapted by the likes of Alex Cox and a whole bunch of other crazy Mexicans into one of the stangest and coolest film in a while. Rozie Perez is Perdita the grifter who embarks on the kind of sex and violence odessey depicted in Wild at Heart. But this time Nic Cage is replaced by Javier Bardem as Romeo the black magic outlaw that every one fears. On a mission, and sexual kink, to sacrafic a virgin in a grand ceremony the two lover become involved in kidnap, murder, baby smuggling and all the usual wierdness that you would expect from Gifford. However, the look of the film is far closer to the likes of Alex Cox's HIGHWAY PATROLMAN than the stylised look of Lynch. It also lacks the sense of humour and illogical symbolism deployed in WILD AT HEART (ie; no wicked witch or yellow brick road). But do not be put off! This is a great film for repeated viewing, and what might seem odd to begin with soon takes on inspiration. Children should not watch this film, nor should anyone who is easily upset by human sacrifice and black magic - the rest of you will have a crazy journey with Perdita Durango.

NB;Perdita Durango is the character played by Isabelle Roselini in Wild at Heart?

5.0 out of 5 stars this film is relentless, 19 Mar 2003
What a journey! this film never stops you wondering where it is going to go next. From devil worship, abduction, and human sacrific to transporting human baby fetusi across the Mexican border. A foot to the floor black comedy with great cameos from Alex Cox and James Gandolfini (Sopranos). Just when you thought films were predictable you saw this.

I was attracted to this film as I am a big fan of Dusk til Dawn and this looked similar. It took a little while to get into the characters but as soon as you do you are hooked... Read more
