5.0 out of 5 stars Non-stop action, sheer fight indulgence - and few wires, 19 Dec 2000
Forget the original version, it's well worth paying the extra for the director's cut. For a start you get a plot, the original version managed to remove most of the "backstory", turning it into a banal fight engine centred around selling the bio-engine with nothing to explain why Toby got to where he was in the first place.

"If you live for action don't settle for anything less" - it does exactly as it says on the cover. The fights are non-stop, well choreographed, and Dacascos uses that amazing airborned barrel-roll twice. Best of all, very little of it is on wires, unlike most HK stuff. You can see the point where they are, but thankfully we see the martial artists' true skill, rather than having it augmented without having to worry about gravity.

I've watched it several times already, and the fights just keep bringing me back for more. Inspirational.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hong Kong Influences the West again, 31 Aug 2000
I was not expecting much from this film when I first watched it as I thought it would be low on action, and not to the standards I am used to seeing from the likes of Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao and the likes. However, I was pleasantly surprised, the fights are fast, intricate and extremeley well coreographed. there are also many of them! This a must purchase for those interested in martial arts movies, or even those that enjoyed films such as Blade, the Matrix and Rush Hour, as the fighting here surpasses the fights in these films. Its a shame that Mark Dacascos hasn't been better used in other films and seems to be overlooked when casting is done for many H.K Styled films. Now we all wait for the film this beat at the fant-asia film film festival 7 years ago...Drunken Master 2!When will this get a proper DVD release!
