Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

With a new series of Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) starring the comedy duo Vic Reeves & Bob Mortimer (still very much among the living, thank you) plus Emilia Fox (as Hopkirk's fiancée) and Tom Baker (as next-world advisor, Wyvern), the BBC has turned an old sitcom into a pop culture event. Though the show's reviews have been missed, no one can argue with the credentials of those involved--and the same goes for the soundtrack. David Arnold and the Cardigans' Nina Persson kick things off with the series' theme, a gloriously lush affair that sparks off white suits and cocktail parties; Basement Jaxx follow that up with a mambo-ish tune that, while not living up to their dance hits, has enough Jaxx-ish flair to succeed as a pop tune. James rescues the guitar riff from Michael Jackson's "Black or White" (a strange place for them to find inspiration, surely), Pulp and the Swingle Sisters contribute an ethereal "My Body May Die" (with Howie B credited for the remix), though it's nowhere near as spacey as The Orb's beautiful "Hamlet of Kings". A collection of nice tunes to back up the glorious theme song, though hardly essential, Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) makes an excellent companion to the TV series. --Randy Silver

3.0 out of 5 stars Slightly disappointed, 25 April 2000
By A Customer
Most will buy the CD to have a chance to listen to the splendid David Arnold theme tune - BE WARNED..although the first track is called 'theme from Randal and Hopkirk (deceased)' this is the vocal version (still pretty good, but slightly different in structure) and not the one you hear when the programme starts. The orchestral arrangment is apparently available on an extended single and probably worth getting..if you can find it anywhere!

2.0 out of 5 stars Major disappointment - Thanks for nothing Island Records, 20 May 2000
By A Customer
Let's face it.. the number one reason for buying thissoundtrack would be for the show's excellant title track by DavidArnold.. so it totally baffles me why they put a different version on the CD. It's not even "slightly" different, Nina Persson warbles all over it from beginning to end... why ? Other tracks on the CD are mildly interesting, but the only reason to really buy this would be for "my body may die" (track 5). END
