I fell in love for the first time in my life while listening to "Chansons Grises". If at first I resisted, the tender caress of this exquisite music persuaded me that all was well: I could abandon myself in that rare meeting of mind, body and spirit.

Now, you should know that the affair was a disaster (!) and that the pain of separation nearly broke me. However, that I still listen to this recording is testimony to its ability restore faith, encourage hope and lift the spirit: Hahn was undoubtedly touched with genius.

Perhaps the same could be said of Martyn Hill and Graham Johnson. In this wonderful recording, the seductive timbre, joyous clarity and staggering expressivity of Hill in partnership with Johnson's fluid, intelligent and ever responsive touch leaves nothing to be desired... except perhaps love itself!

If you have ever loved, or hope to do so, this CD should be in your collection.

I was interested to hear these songs because of Hahn's conection with Marcel Proust;I was persuaded to buy this recording on the recomendation of the previous reviewer,and how right the reviewer is!These are beautiful settings and gorgeously recorded,the performances faultless,music to fall in love to,and to drink a bottle of wine(or two)whilst listening to.
