Amazon.co.uk Review
Picking up where Queer as Folk left off, QAF2: Same Men, New Tricks exists primarily to wrap up the series. Consisting of two one-hour episodes, it occasionally moves fast--but it won't leave anyone who watched the first series behind. Stuart is still, we're constantly reminded, "a twat", and it's around him that this sequel revolves. Trying to come to term with his place in the world, he finds young Nathan a formidable protege, his family needing him less, and his friends... well, Stuart never was much of one for relationships. Vince, his one friend, has started to take charge of his own life, leaving Stuart to grow less and less connected to anyone else's definition of responsible behaviour. It's maddening, but it's also what makes the show so much fun to watch.

Then comes the ending: keeping in mind that QAF2 was done solely to ensure that there would be no conceivable way to do any further series, the fantastical final 15 minutes is extremely effective, if a bit incongruous with the rest of the show. Camp and way, way, way over the top, it's an ending that the guys in the show would probably relish. --Randy Silver

2.0 out of 5 stars Mad way to gou out? Nope. Just sad, really sad..., 8 April 2000
By bergman@xekmail.pt (Lisboa, Portugal) - See all my reviews
I suppose it's okay to ommit a few lesbians, drop two thirds of the familiar sets, have Stuart play criminally out of character, have Vince go along with it to the extent of leaving Alfie behind... But the final 10 minutes are just crap. Stuart and Vince crap, granted. But we could have wrapped things up a bit more, dare I say it, straight-forward? Don't get the impression I hated it. I'm just sorely disappointed, and QAF 1 is so brilliant!...

2.0 out of 5 stars A Balancing Act, 27 April 2000

I hereby state my condition - completely in love with Queer As Folk (the first). Naturally I had extremely high expectations as to the follow-up. Not very wise... One of the things that bothered me most was the way so many plotlines were packed into so little time. Are we supposed to develop them ourselves? Not too bad. But Stuart blowing up cars and ending up with Vince in a huge pond rather than a ghetto is pure fantasy. What about Alf? What about parents with whom everything remained to be settled? Technically, I'm not too sure the widescreen format feels right. There's a bit more extra features than on the video, but for a DVD this is way below potential... Overall? See it at your own peril.

2.0 out of 5 stars Out With A Bang? I think not, 9 May 2000
By A Customer
Queer As Folk was one of the most innovative pieces of TV drama it was my pleasure (and good fortune) to see. For the first time a widely well received depiction of Gay Life, well, of a certain style of it... I was hoping QAF2 would go further. Well, it turned out to be 1 hour of concentrated stereotypical soap (Russell's roots showing?) and 15 minutes of pure sci-fi (Dr.Who meets MTV). The actors barely manage to survive this travesti of a show. That's betrayal, innit? Marvellous!...
