(Lethal Weapon 2 of the 5-Disc Box-Set)
'Martin' (Mel Gibson) and often reluctant partner 'Roger' (Danny Glover) hit the streets again in the second of the series
with a further mix of 'Action' and indeed 'Humour'
This time they have to baby-sit a low-profile-criminal 'Leo' (Joe Pesci) ahead of a trial in which he is a key-witness, though
never slow to exploit an opportunity cop 'Martin' persuade's 'Leo' to give them a lead.
However the 'Big-Fish' Arjen Rudd' (Joss Ackland) a South-African drug-lord they are trying to reel-in has diplomatic-immunity,
and cannot be touched, 'Martin' and 'Roger' are warned-off by their boss, not that 'Martin' will accept legal-restraint once he
has the bit between his teeth, he now sets out to make a nuisance of himself.
'Argen Rudd' will always know 'Martin' is not very far away.
(The film does have one of screens more amusing sequences on-board as 'Roger' becomes afraid to move off the toilet in hs
home, it's been 'wired' and will explode the second he moves)
'Martin' continues his unofficial pursuit of 'Argen' he also has an eye for the South-African's' female assistant 'Rika Van Den Haas' (Patsy Kensit)
Meanwhile the vengeful 'Argen' has several colleagues of 'Martin' and 'Roger' eliminated in addition to attempting a hit on the two, a nail-gun used by workers at 'Rogers' house comes in handy along the way, the stakes are raised even higher when
'Argen's' right-hand man 'Pieter' (Dereck O'Connor) admits to 'Martin' that he'd been responsible for the death of 'Martin's'
wife some while back.........It's pay-back time........
Not as sharp as the first in the series, still hugely enjoyable nevertheless.

Intrepid cop partners Riggs & Murtaugh are on the trail of South African diplomats who are using their diplomatic immunities to engage in criminal activities.

With the success of Lethal Weapon in 1987 it made common sense to follow it with a sequel. All the same elements were in place, cast, director and writers were all back for another slice of buddy buddy action bonanza. The only change of course is the villains, here represented by Joss Ackland & Derrick O'Connor's weasel South African bastardos. Joe Pesci enters the fray as the comical Leo Getz, a Federal Witness that the cop duo have to "babysit" till trial.

Right from the off the tone of the film is set as our ears split and our eyes get dazzled by a high speed car chase. Riggs & Murtaugh are in hot pursuit whilst exchanging a now customary difference of opinion as regards police work. We know they are mates and we know that Riggs is still the lethal weapon and Murtaugh is old school copper. So whilst there's nothing new in that the formula remains the same, the makers do flesh out the relationship more as the film progresses. With one or two scenes absolute gold dust as the boys' lives come under serious threat. We are now, in spite of the carnage that surrounds them, involved with them, yes, such is the charm of their relationship, we care. It's good writing, regardless of the charges from some quarters that these film's are nasty shallow excuses for making money.

It's fair to say that this is Gibson's movie, because it's written that way. Some of Riggs' back story is filled in and he even gets a love interest in the slender form of Patsy Kensit.

This is the sequel to the popular 80s action classic Lethal weapon, Lethal weapon is a superior sequel with once again keeping up a cool story full of action and violence and over the top stunts and a few added twists to the characters stories, the cast once again is brilliant with the addition of a few new faces mainly Joe Pesci and the lovely young Patsy Kensit. This is a great sequel and a must for big fans of 80s action movies!

Asides from the laughable South African accent attempts and the fact that one of the only genuine South Africans is killed off within the first 15 minutes, this is classic Riggs and Murtaugh action! Great one liners, good action and a few anti-hero characters that will remain in the memory for a long time to come (hey?)

In my humble opinion, the best of all four of the "Weapons". The characters are well established and the addition of Pesci is pure genius if not a little of a show stealer. A great piece of casting in Josh Ackland as the evil baddy and even Patsy Kensit looks gorgeous and believe me I am not one of her admirers. The action is fast paced, the storyline is good (only feeling dated due to the fall of Aparthied) and the performances from all involved are top notch. This is just one long non stop rollercoaster, especially the destroying of the house on stilts (yes that is a real house that they had to build to full regs due to local laws--just to destroy it!!). This was made for DVD, the explosions and sound effects just jump out at you thanks to the advances made in home sound technology. A bargain and a must for all Gibson/Glover fans.
