5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent but Controversial, 28 Mar 2008

(REAL NAME)
Being a fairly sad case where this particular Mahler symphony is concerned, with around 7 different recordings in my small collection, I think that Boulez is probably my favourite acccount. as soon as you hear the sleighbells rattling away at breakneck pace, you just know that Boulez has a very different take than many other conductors.

DG has provided great sonics (always important to my ears with this composer in particular) and decent notes.

Try Tlson Thomas too for a modern recording or Kubelik from the past.
