4.0 out of 5 stars A must for any would be roboteer !, 10 Sep 2000
By A Customer
An enthralling and exiting video which sums up the spirit and ecstacy of Robot Wars. A well planned and presented show which is perfect for the complete stranger to Robot Wars and the world champion roboteer in one. The comprehensive and interesting tutorial included is a must for anyone hoping to build a robot. The commentry from Jonathan Pierce superbly creates the tension of the battles. The only feature that slightly lowers the qulity of this video, is the fact that many of the key battles are left out creating an incomplete view of the first great war. All in all an excellent and compelling video.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best shows from my childhood, 27 Feb 2008

I was totally addicted to Robot Wars when it was first showing on BBC 2. The presenting was good, the effects and production was amazing for the time but surely the star of the show was the fights. The concept was just incredible with some cool looking robots with great weapons busting each other apart.

Everyone knew about how successful robots with flippers could be but you couldn't get past the raw satisfaction of something which literally tore its opponnent apart with a hammer or circular saw.

And of course, each weak, the superior house robots remained an ever popular attraction as were the various traps in the arena. Of course, as time went by, the series went through many changes, sadly getting rid of the assault course games and only featuring fights which took away from some of the appeal and variety of the original series. Thankfully, it's that first series you get on this video (all packaged in a cool metal presentation case) although i'll warn you, it is quite heavily cut down from what you would have seen on the TV.
