Stylish and exuberant disco, 7 Jan 2003
This collection proves the late 70s was a great time for dance music. Along with Giorgio Moroder, Donna Summer, Grace Jones and Saturday Night fever there was Chic, with their minimalistic but elegant grooves. My favourites on this collection include Everybody Dance, Le Freak (which was a sort of mini anthem), I Want Your Love and Good Times. Most of these are the extended mixes, not the original singles, but that means more value for money! Something in the blend of tight guitar riffs, vocals and sublime arrangements just grab you; this is dance music you can listen to. And if you want more of the same, check out Norma Jean’s album Saturday and anything by Sister Sledge.

Great Music, Flawed Collection, 8 Jun 2004
Chic is clearly one of the most influential groups of the 1970s, thanks to the innovative songwriting and production team of Nile Rogers and the late Bernard Edwards. This compilation is a collection of the band's hits, and on the surface, it looks flawless. Many of the group's big singles ("Dance Dance Dance," "I Want Your Love," and "Le Freak") appear and this actually has more tracks than the band's previous retrospective, 1991's "Dance Dance Dance." So "The Very Best of Chic" is the better album to get, right? Well, not so fast. On this album, many of the tracks are edited and don't feature the original 12-inch version. What's more, is that "The Very Best of Chic" is missing at least two key songs that appeared on 1991's "Dance, Dance, Dance": the excellent "Chic Cheer" and "Strike Up the Band." Of course, this CD isn't necessarily bad, and it serves as a good introduction to the novice listener. But 1991's "Dance Dance Dance" is really the superior album and is much better than "The Very Best of Chic." Try getting that one instead.

ESSENTIAL LISTENING, 9 May 2002
This HAS to be the ultimate chic album. Its one of the few that contains all of their hits with most of them also being the 12 inch versions (try and find those anywhere else!) The highlights from an important piece of musics history.
