Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Neal Casal is a bewilderingly prolific singer-songwriter--Anytime Tomorrowis his seventh album in just over five years--from the hitherto little-recognised country hotbed of New Jersey. He has turned his back on a local musical heritage that includes Sinatra and Springsteen, and instead embraced the alt. country lineage of states further to the south: Casal's spiritual cousins are all of the country variety, and include Uncle Tupelo, the Jayhawks, Nadine and the Old 97s. Naturally, this is no bad thing, and neither is Anytime Tomorrow. Though Casal's voice and the arrangements often err on the side of the prosaic and generic, it is not without its charms, leaving the listener caught between thinking they've heard it all before and wanting to hear it again. --Andrew Mueller

5.0 out of 5 stars Restores your faith in music, 7 Aug 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Anytime Tomorrow (Audio CD)
I had the great pleasure of seeing Neal Casal play his heart out in front of fifty or so hardy souls in Winchester earlier this year. This CD has fast become indispensable to me. Put it on and you're right there, cruising through Americana with the roof down and happy! Should, if there was any justice, have folk running to explore his back catalogue...sadly it probably won't. Buy it and remind yourself what a real musician sounds like.

4.0 out of 5 stars Casal is the man, 14 Jan 2005

I only owned Basement Dreams by Neal Casal until recently, when I went on a bit of a spree after seeing him live in Nottingham (excellent).

Anytime Tomorrow did not disappoint, with its instantly catchy, uplifting and just plain rollicking opening numbers, followed by three bona fide masterpieces in Eddy & Diamonds (dark, bitter and heavy), Oceanview (a soaring arrangement, unlike anything he's done before) and Camarillo (just plain addictive uber-country rock).

Inbetween are some lovely little numbers that will become more memorable in time, and about two that i skip; but this is purely a relative measure.

Casal is irritating to some because he seems so generic, but if you want someone who seems to sweat melody, has a pen for an affecting turn of phrase (see: Everything about you is ten feet tall) and just seems to live for music, then look no further.

VG with 5 big gold stars. If you like this, then try Neal's earlier Fade Away Diamond Time album, which is even better...
