Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Tosca's first album, Opera, was something of a hit-and-miss affair. While some tracks were bona fide, genre classics (debut single "Chocolate Elvis" has been hugely influential), others meandered along with no particular purpose. With Suzuki, Richard Dorfmeister and Rupert Huber appear to have found their rhythm. The chilled-out formula developed on Opera is explored in greater detail. Heavy dub sounds and chunky downtempo breaks nestle side by side with gentle bossa beats, sun-kissed guitars and heavenly vocal snippets. Each track is well defined, delicately crafted and excellently produced. The galloping bossa nova of "Boss On The Boat" and warm organ sounds of "Honey" are particular highlights, while the tinkling pianos and sun-drenched guitar solos on "The Key" evoke images of infinite Ibizan sunsets. Tosca's warm and comforting soundscapes are perfect for winding down after work and excellent for banishing everyday stress. Few tracks stand out, though over the 70-minute duration you'd hardly notice. Taken as a whole, Suzuki is an intoxicatingly horizontal, stoned groove of some distinction. --Matt Anniss

5.0 out of 5 stars Heard this playing in Debenhams! Awesome., 22 Jul 2000
By preynolds@mac.com (Holsworthy, Devon) - See all my reviews
I have discovered the music from Tosca through various compilations such as Future Sound of Jazz, but now it's time for the full album. Suzuki is filled with 11 tracks, and if you're looking for that typical dreamy future jazzistic Tosca lounge sound, you won't be disappointed. And dreamy it is ! That typical smooth trippy music, with light dreamy whispering voices on top is omnipresent. Smokey indeed ! I especially like "Orozco", with a slow smooth fat funky oldskool bassline lithered with dreamy chants. Or take"Busenfreund" for example, going more into the atmospheric lounge-houze directions with moody keys all over. "Ocean Beat" is here too, which is by now already a classic essential lounge track ! "John Tones" and "The key" explore more into future jazzy soundscapes, again super dreamy for sure! Finally, the delicate soundscape of "Peartoff" closes the Tosca album. Yes, it's lounge time with Tosca, the Suzuki album is fully packed with warm smokey music you'll enjoy for hours! It proves once again that the Vienna scene is alive !

5.0 out of 5 stars K&D style vibes for the 21st century, 14 Jun 2000
By A Customer
If you liked the K&D Sessions but thought it sounded a bit dated, then this is for you. Morcheeba vs. Massive Attack mixed by Afterlife. Can't be missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought Chocolate Elvis was good, check this one out!, 17 April 2000
This is propably the best piece of music released by Richard Dorfmeinster, credit goes to Rupert Huberthe as well. If you like the K&D Sessions, or any other work by K&D in general well...don't even think about it. Just get it, you'll love it.
