Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
If Season One hooked viewers by promising unpredictable story lines and a willingness to experiment outside the boundaries of genre formatting, nothing prepared us for the latter half of Season Two. Softening the blow--much like the way Box Set 1 ends--is the start here with the kooky Thing-like invasion of "Bad Eggs". Then with the extraordinary double act of "Surprise" and "Innocence", every aspect of the show grows up in a big hurry: the result of Buffy sleeping with Angel is a series of tragedies everyone is powerless to predict or prevent. These two episodes deservedly won an Emmy for make-up, but that says nothing of the powerful story-telling conveyed by pared-down dialogue and remarkable performances from the young cast. As Angel's character is inverted and explored, it's an acting slugfest between David Boreanaz and Sarah Michelle Gellar through to their bitter end (she later won a Saturn Award in recognition). As the pair dance between seeking out and avoiding one another, each of the secondary characters undergoes a talent-stretching transformation. For Giles it's the end to his relationship with Jenny ("Passion"), an event poisoning the motivations of everyone it affects. Willow distances herself considerably from the timid teddy bear image, taking on teaching responsibilities, witchcraft, and her lycanthropic boyfriend Oz (coincidentally, Alyson Hannigan and Seth Green were also together in My Stepmother Is An Alien). All of these threads are tied together then torn apart by the two-part finale "Becoming". So much happens in these two hours of television, but thankfully nothing seems rushed. With a cliffhanger ending to rival The Empire Strikes Back the second chapter of Buffy The Vampire Slayer closes in tantalising style leaving everything at stake. --Paul Tonks

5.0 out of 5 stars Buffy's Season Two is an emotional rollercoaster!, 11 Oct 2000
By A Customer
The latter half of Season Two contains some of Buffy's best episodes to date. Although I myself preffer Season Three, I must admit these episodes are brilliant. They range from comedy classics, fun advetures and emotional masterpieces. The gems come in the form of the two two-parters. Surprise and Innocence focus on Angel's sudden turn to the dark side after he and Buffy give in to passion. Then there are the closing two exhausting episodes - Becoming, Parts One and Two. You'll laugh, you'll cry and be thrilled to the bone. I can't even begin to describe how brilliant they really are. Passion also shines brighter than the rest. Get the tissues ready, especially if you're a fan of the lovely Ms Calendar. For those fans who like the funny episodes, don't rewind past Bewitched, Bothered And Bewildered or Go Fish. These are just all-out ribtickling exercises in comedy! And Phases is also exceptional. Willow and Oz (who turns out to be a werewolf) finally get together. The episode is cute, sweet and loadsa fun. So, what are you waiting for? If you ain't got your hands on this boxset yet (whyever not?) you better save your pennies up or fail to see how brilliant these episodes are...

5.0 out of 5 stars Easily the best Buffy videos, 7 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This box set is pure entertainment purely because of how dark it is - Angel has gone bad which has many tragic repercussions for Buffy and her friends - I can't watch Becoming without having goosebumps all over (likewise I can't watch Passion without crying). I would recommend buying the previous sets first, just to know the story, but these are the best for my money

5.0 out of 5 stars A thrilling video that got better with every episode, 2 May 2000
By A Customer
As soon as I finished watching the first box set of the second series, I rushed to buy this one - what a brilliant buy! With this box set there's not so much of Angel and Buffy kissing, but rather them beating each other up! Yes, Angel turns bad again and is back to his best. The progression of the relationship between Xander and Charisma Carpenter's character is very amusing. She gets a lot more air time in this series and is a great character. If you think of the most shallow thing to say in a given situation then she will say it! She's hilarious. Giles is progressed as a character much more in the second series and has definitely come a long way since the Gold Blend adverts! Willow still came down with the last drop of rain but has a cool boyfriend to take her mind off Xander and his love interest.

I'm not sure if I can wait until June 2000 for the third series box set, but I guess that I will have to. The last two episodes on the set are unforgettable and well worth buying just for that.
