Director Doug Liman's follow-up to the winning Swingers is a rollicking adventure that, while lacking in any substantial plot, speeds along with non-stop adrenaline and style to burn. Taking a cue from Pulp Fiction, Liman plays tricks with time and overlapping plots, all of which play out in L.A. and Las Vegas in a 24-hour period sometime between Christmas and New Year's. Slacker grocery-store clerk Ronna (Sarah Polley) is trying to score rent money by selling hits of Ecstasy at a rave party, but winds up inadvertently double-crossing a ruthless dealer (sexy and scary Timothy Olyphant). She's also invading the dealing turf of her coworker Simon (Desmond Askew), a Brit on his first trip to Vegas, which turns nightmarish after a jaunt with pal Marcus (Taye Diggs) to a "gentleman's club" turns violent. And then there's the two soap-opera actors (Jay Mohr and Scott Wolf) who cross paths with Ronna more than once in their attempts to divest themselves of a drug-related charge by participating in a sting. The way Liman and writer John August layer these stories owes a huge debt to Quentin Tarantino, but the comedy and action sequences rocket like a bat out of hell with energy, humour, and genuine surprise. In addition to some hilarious dialogue exchanges--including a classic scene between Ronna's stoned friend (Nathan Bexton) and a Zen cat--Liman works wonders with one the most winning ensembles in recent memory, a cast that includes both established actors and TV cuties. Mohr, Diggs, and especially Polley (doing a 180 from her turn in The Sweet Hereafter) are as excellent as you'd expect, but it's Wolf (of Party of Five) and Dawson's Creek's Katie Holmes (as Polley's best bud) who turn in revelatory work; Holmes especially seems poised to be a breakout star. An amazing cinematic ride--like a roller coaster, you'll want to go back again and again. --Mark Englehart

True it is similar to Tarantino's 1994 film 'Pulp Fiction', yet the only comparison being the "short story" method employed in both, and the razor sharp characters. I watched this film without prior knowledge, and admittedly was sceptical, and was pleasantly surprised. Watching this film is a roller coaster ride, with the same weekend told from the viewpoint of various different characters in the film. Whether it is Ronna and her first attempt at drug dealing, the exploits of Simon (who makes a surprisingly good transition from the school yard of Grange Hill) and his friends in Las Vegas or the story behind Adam & Zack, and why they really went to Ronna in the first place. All three storylines culminate into a believable ending and everything is brilliantly crafted together by director Doug Lyman (Swingers). Overall if you enjoy hip films featuring a young and vibrant cast then 'Go' see this film (credit to box for that pun). Comment Comment | Permalink | Was this review helpful to you? I would say its layout is original if it werent for Pulp Fiction, which it gets compared to constantly. I suppose its a soft-core Pulp Fiction! Take one eighteen-year old,sulky, skint supermarket cashier named Ronna, thrown in a stoner friend-Mannie, a concerned friend-Claire, an angry drug dealer, some chewable aspirin and a drugs bust and you have the first story. She faces the choice of either being evicted or dealing drugs to get some money- but everything seems to go wrong. This is undoubtedly the best of the three mini-tales. Apparently this was originally a short with just Ronnas tale, the other two were added later, and it shows because Ronnas story is just a teensy bit better than the others. Sarah Polley is alternately nice and bitchy as hard girl Ronna- but you still end up loving her. Katie Holmes' Claire is just a slightly more badass version of Joey- can she PLAY any other type of character? And Scream 2 killer Timothy Olyphant is suitably scary, funny and horny as drug dealer Todd. The second story revolves around Simon, an English guy going for a weekend in Vegas with some mates. This story involves group sex, tantric sexuality, a strip joint, a sexy red car, a car chase and Simon running through the hotel butt naked. Simon is the daft stoner who is ALWAYS getting himself and his friends into bother and he suceeds big time, managing to piss off half Las Vegas in the space of a few hours! This story will having you crying with laughter and falling off your seat with anticipation. Simon is loveable and dorky, and you can't help laughing at his stupid remarks and antics. The third story revolves around Adam and Zack, a pair of sexy gay actors who try to bust Ronna in order to get out of a charge themselves. However the cop they are working for, Burke, keeps hitting on them for some reason (cue lots of rather amusing comments and looks). They whinge and bitch at each other for a while and then they get involved in a 'little accident'. This story is the least active but it makes up for it in the amusement stakes. Jay Mohr (Zack) and Scott Wolf (Adam) hit it off so well its easy to believe they actually ARE gay lovers and they both have their funny little ways of getting laughs- Adam by being a downright sissy and Zack by being a bit mean and able to reduce people to heaps with a droll look. And of course both of them, scream like- well women. Go is confusing the first time you watch it, the second time around, it rocks. Throw in a brilliant soundtrack, a bunch of charismatic sexy young things and a real 'culty' feel and you have a totally unmissable independant movie. It definately is similar to Pulp Fiction in many ways, but is certainly not just a rip off. The way all the loose ends are tied up is great, and it impossible to see what is coming. When you watch it for a second or third time it doesn't lose it appeal, especially when you can see other people totally guessing the plot all wrong! Excellent film.
