Synopsis

Picking up precisely where the last installment left off, PHANTASM IV: Oblivion finds Mike (Baldwin) traveling through time to escape his evil nemesis, the Tall Man (Scrimm). In an attempt to unearth the origins of his enemy, Mike enters a dimensional gate leading to the 19th century, where he meets the Tall Man as an innocent (and actually friendly) scientist on the brink of unlocking the secrets of gates and spheres. Meanwhile, Reggie (Bannister) remains in the present fighting off the undead menace (and his murderous flying hardware) in an effort to save his friend's life.
PHANTASM IV: Oblivion contains a never-before-seen scene cut from the first installment during a flashback sequence, and features the same director, writer, and cast as the original 1979 cult classic.

3.0 out of 5 stars Phan-tastic, 17 Sep 2000
Following the rule of sequels (it ain't as good as the original) however this film is a worthy entry to the quartet. Tries to tie up and provide explanations for all the major plot points which kinda takes something away from the nightmarish style of it's predecessors.

4.0 out of 5 stars Realistic & Original Blend Of Sci-Fi / Horror, 12 Jun 2003
By A Customer
Of the 4 Phantasm films (I have seen them all) I would put this addition alongside the original, inteligent script with plenty of twits & turns to keep you guessing. Phantasm II is an excellent sequel & the first is a classic - Oblivion maintains that eery quality without overpowering the viewer with relentless gore & voilence. I will make a point of noting Phantasm III but that is all I'll say as it is a huge letdown to what could have been a superb 4 film triology - forget P3 & you have that spectacular triology!!
This is a glossy moden day harror yarn that encompasses all the Phantasm storylines form the first to to produce a nice film which, despite it's lack of in-your-face gore, still manages to shock & scare. P2 does this impecibally well in a totally different 80s style & it is done again here but with more dynamic story writing & phychological torment which works refreshingly well.
I would certaintly reccomend THIS Phantasm to any fans who have seen the first two.
Not quite 5 stars but it's damn good!

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST Phantasm yet!, 22 Jul 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Phantasm IV Oblivion (VHS Tape)
This is quite simply the best Phantasm to date. Not only do you get to see scenes that were cut from the first film. But you also learn the origin of the sinister Tall Man! A "phan"tastic movie.
