Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Held in high affection because of his days as keyboard player in the Small Faces and its boozy descendant, the Faces, McLagan has spent the better of two decades lending his unique support to such legends as Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and Taj Mahal. While his former frontman Rod Stewart went on to AOR platinum status, McLagan has kept it real, continuing the spirit of ramshackle, good-time glory that made his first two bands (and band-mate Ronnie Lane's Slim Chance) so memorable. "She Stole It!", a broken-hearted rant against a girlfriend who nicked his collection of Hank Williams, Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles records, tells McLagan's whole story. His heart beats faster for pure soul, R&B and country, but he has enough sense to know he is a Londoner, so he delivers quintessentially English rock like "Suzie Got A Sweet Face" or lost-love songs like "Warm Rain". In short, if you are longing to hear a record just like Rod used to make, Best Of British is it. --Johnny Black

5.0 out of 5 stars Great music, mix of R&B, Faces style rock and mellow vocals, 8 Mar 2001
By A Customer
Mac's voice is surprisingly excellent throughout this mix of music - I didn't know he could sing so well!. You'd expect some great Hammond work and you get it. Warm Rain is exquisite and mellow. There are numerous rousing Faces style tracks to sing along to as well. When are you makin' another Mac old boy?
