4.0 out of 5 stars Great Film, shame about the other one, 23 May 2000
By danncj@hotmail.com (London, England) - See all my reviews
First Kinight is quite possibly one of the most appalling wastes of celluloid ever, terrible acting and ridiculous scenery 'special effects' just compound the misery of a great story very poorly told. Anyone interested in authentic Authurian Legend would be better off spending a couple of hours watching John Boorman's 'Excalibur' which is a faithfull recital of the Legend with great performances from Helen Mirren, Nigel Terry and Cherie Lunghi.

However, 'The Man Who Would Be King' is definitely some of the best work Connery and Caine have ever produced. A fabulous film telling the story of former Colonial soldiers in the sub-continent in search of Gold - sound a little like 'Three Kings'?.

Both Caine and Connery turn in terrific performances and create a very enjoyable 19th Century 'romp'. The only real problem is that this film is only available bundled with the garbage also known as 'First Knight'.
