From the Back Cover
Peter Bowles stars as Major Sinclair Yeates, a retired English army officer who has been appointed Resident Magistrate for the West of Ireland in the days before Irish independence.

With his wife away in England looking after her ailing mother, the Major is even more exposed than usual to the wiles of the local inhabitants.

Whilst trying to strike a balance between befriending the local townspeople and bestowing law and order, the Major has to contend with all of the local goings-on.

Including the arrival of moving pictures to Skebawn, strange spirits in the well, a misguided sailing trip to a local restaurant, skulduggery at the local hunt, some dubious dealings at the Lisheen horse races and the brewing of illicit whiskey.

Shot entirely on location in the beautiful and dramatic Irish countryside, The Irish RM also stars Bryan Murray, Lise-Ann McLaughlin, Sarah Badel, Anna Manahan and Brendan Conroy.

First shown on Channel 4, this video contains the entire third series on two feature length tapes.

Episodes featured include: The Muse In Skebawn Apollo Riggs A Friend Of Her Youth In The Curranhilty Country Lisheen Races The Devil You Know

5.0 out of 5 stars The Irish R.M. gets even better!, 16 Sep 2003

These tapes conclude the adventures and misadventures of Major Sinclair Yeates (Peter Bowles), a British resident magistrate in turn-of-the-century Ireland. The show continues with most of the same major characters, as did the second tape series, with the notable absence of Philippa Yeates (Doran Godwin). She is back in England for these shows, and replaced with Barbara "Babs" Yeates (Sarah Badel), the Major's sister.

As with the other two series of tapes, this one contains 6 tapes, each one a one-hour episode. This show contains nothing objectionable, and is great for viewing by the whole family. Thankfully, these shows succeed in recapturing some of the lightheartedness that marked the first tape series, but was missing in the second. Of most importance, though, the final episode makes the whole purchase worthwhile! I will avoid spoiling it, but in this episode the Major finally gets one up.

Buy these tapes!
