Erin Grant (Demi Moore) is willing to work as a stripper in order to earn enough money to win custody of her daughter from errant husband Darrell. In so doing she attracts the attentions of perverse congressman David Dilbeck (Burt Reynolds), who is keen for a private audience. Dilbeck is also involved in a blackmail plot over photos of him at the club where Erin works, and is soon under investigation by the police. When she agrees to dance for him, Erin becomes involved in a fast-moving world of corruption and murder.I. Jane' or 'Disclosure'.

This horrible misfire from the usually reliable writer-director Andrew Bergman (The Freshman) has nothing funny, provocative, timely or interesting to say (despite being based on a novel by Carl Hiaasen) once Demi Moore gets her clothes off. Moore plays a single, unemployed mum caught up in a custody battle who elects to make some money by stripping at a club. The character's troubles don't end there, however: her ex-husband is posing a threat, and a perverted congressman (Burt Reynolds) is looking for more than a lap dance. I have enjoyed this movie ever since I first viewed it. And the main reason is Demi Moore. She has obviously done her homework and her dancing is quite literally, stunning. She is truly superb as one of the sleasy nightclub pole dancers and I appreciate an actor who has taken the time to experience the real thing and then gets it spot on when required.
Some of the support cast leave things to be desired. Moore's estranged husband is not the best drunk/druggy I've ever seen and Bert Reynolds portrayal of the congressman couldn't have been more hammed up if the producers had tried. And even with an indifferent script, Moore holds it all together so as not to allow these annoyances to ruin this otherwise enjoyable comedy/drama.
Overall, a pretty good movie with Moore's "chair dance" being one of the most sensual acts I have seen in a loooong time!!

Despite the lousy reviews I enjoyed the film, and can easily associate it with the works of Mr Hiassen, which are a similar mix of detective thriller and the absurd. It isn't 5 star material but it's a lot better than much of today's output. Yes, OK, you could cut 15 minutes of topless pole dancing, and not lose any of the plot, but that's about the worst you can say about it.

Burt Reynolds hams it up, and nearly everyone else is playing caricature parts too, but so what .. it wasn't intended to be great art.

Bit of a Demi Moore fan really, which is why this film had to be part of my DVD collection. Although Demi's body looks very nice during the dance routines, this film has a slightly sinister side. The story is more about the lengths a mother will go to gain back custody of her child and bring shame on those who by their political positions assume they are above reproach. This movie after all these years really is not that bad, its rather a fun romp, the story mainly is about a mother gaining custody of her daughter but with a few complications the mother is a stripper, the father is a drunken thief and she gets mixed up in a political scandal with a senator!! The movie delivers a few laughs along the way mainly from Ving Rhames, Demi Moore is fantastic as the lead and looks incredibly hot (especially when half naked) overall its a rather entertaining movie with cheesy performances but lashings of nudity to make up for it, the bluray picture quality is very good for a film made in 1996 and is uncut.

I like this film not only because it seems that back in the day, films were able to be made about this type of subject but also because it is a well made film and Demi Moore is a great actress and as always gives a solid performance and makes the role believable. I'm sure she had fun researching it too!

I wish I had the body of Demi in this film!!!

I never understood the poor reviews this film is getting. It must be snobbery. Obviously if a major star is near-nude in a film, she has "sold out".
I enjoyed the film. It is funny, and Demi looks great. Burt is excellent.

Let's get this out of the way first, Striptease is not a great movie, it's not even a good one. What it is, is a bad movie that is fun to watch. The picture & sound quality on this Blu ray release are very good, though you don't get any extras except for a theatrical trailer. Demi Moore at the time of its release got some stick for her performance but I think it had more to do with the weak script / idea, what sort of movie did they think they were seeing. If you take it for what it is, a badly written comedy drama then you won't be surprised when you notice that you quite enjoyed watching it.

This film is ok, almost turned it off, but thought I should see it out. The storyline is good, and touching in places, but some of the acting is terrible. The humour is poor. I like films centered around strip clubs and the lives of the girls that work in this industry being a dancer myself, but in this respect it is also poor, and there are better ones out there like dancing at the blue Iguana, or the very brilliant film showgirls
