Very Good for Beginners and the more advanced alike!, 17 Dec 2001

This video is an absolute essential for anyone wanting to begin Yoga! In my opinion, this tape should be up in the top 5 matches for Yoga as it really is quite a gem. Barbara Currie is an excellent yoga teacher, and while her 'school nurse' approach may not suit everyone, I don't think you will get many yoga videos that offer better value for money than this!Like her other videos, this tape is split into sections- so it offers something for everyone no matter how much time you have, or what your yoga goals are! The 10 Minute Miracle is good for beginners - it offers 6 key postures and is great to do every morning as a yoga 'top up' if you haven't got much time. The second section- Reshape and Energise is longer, and takes you through a great selection of toning and uplifting poses. The third section helps you to unwind, stretch out and relax your body, which is a great routine to practice in the evening. Barbara Currie is as encouraging as ever, while giving sensible and easy to follow instructions.Flanked by her 2 companions, she offers moves for all levels of ability, - there is always someone practising an easier version, which is really encouraging when you are working through the tape thinking "my leg won't bend that far yet!" I found Barbara to have a lovely teaching style, motivating yet soothing. This tape is fun to do, and not at all boring or monotonous like some Yoga videos. The setting for the video is a simple room, which is clutter free so there is nothing to distract you from the yoga. The colours of the lights and flowers change for each section to reflect the aims of the routine- i.e bright orange/yellow for the energising moves, and soothing blue and pink for the relaxation sequence, which I found made it very pleasing to watch. I would highly recommend this tape, along with Barbara Curries Power of Yoga video also- because between the two, these videos really do cover a lot of exercises! I have found that with so many other yoga videos, you only get a few measly poses, poorly illustrated, with the rest of the tape padded out with talking and/or annoying images and music. Barbara's videos are not like this, they are excellent value for money as they are clear, precise and easy to follow. And you certainly get plenty of exercises to bend your body into! This tape should keep you going for quite a while as there is always another move to progress on to. Another good buy I found is Barbara Curries book- Fabulous Shape Forever, which acts as an excellent accompaniment to her tapes and is one of my favourite books on yoga. It shows many of the moves shown on the video, and therefore makes a great reference book. Overall, this tape is great, and one which I look forward to playing over and over again for a long time to come.
