5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most original TV series in years, 18 Oct 2002
Jonathan Creek, the mastermind behind magician Adam Claus. In between creating new magic tricks he helps solve baffling crimes.

Stand-up comic Alan Davies is brilliantly cast as the title character. Caroline Quentin (instantly recognisable from Men Behaving Badly) is his reporter 'friend'. On this tape there are two episodes. The extended pilot episode 'Wrestler's Tomb' starring former Dr Who Colin Baker and 'Jack in the Box', the first 'proper' episode.

In Wrestler's Tomb, look out for Anthony Head (from Buffy) playing Adam Claus, and also look out for impressionist Alistair McGowan as Maddie Megelan's partner. This episode marks their only appearance in the series.

Basic plot lines..Wrestler's Tomb sees an artist shot dead while his mistress is left tied and gagged. The main suspect, his wife, has a tight alibi that she was in her office.

In 'Jack in the Box' a convicted murderer has his conviction overturned and is released. The husband of the woman he was accused of killing is found murdered inside a locked nuclear bunker, deep underground, with no visible means of escape for whoever did it.

If you've never seen Jonathan Creek before, this is definately the tape to start with. later episodes became slightly more 'far-fetched' (although still highly entertaining).

A huge recommendation from me !!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best programe set on video in the world!, 6 Jul 2000
All the Jonathan Creek episods are exquisite! A witty murder mystery serial, but not like Sherlok Holmes or anything because the're never excactly on the job. Why listen to grim, always trying to find out how someone killed someone else when you can watch Jonathan Creek and Maddy Magelan argue because Jonathan won`t tell Maddy how it was done?
