5.0 out of 5 stars 'The Best', 10 Sep 2003
This is quite simply, the best thing I have ever seen, overriding any other multi million pound movie or award winning TV Series. Performances from Nicole Kidman, Denholm Elliott and Hugo Weaving are outstanding. The story is gripping from beginning to end. The realities of drug-smuggling and the horrors of death row are shown in such a dramatic and intense way that they impact on your mind for ever. The underlying theme of 'the truth is sacred', is touching, precious, and worthy of mention. The excitement of the final episode, after such a clever and dramatic build-up of circumstances, is enough to keep your heart pounding to the end. But certainly not to be missed, is the dramatic irony of the relationship between father and daughter, that culminates in a crescendo at the end, and which brings me to floods of tears every time. Absolutely first-class.

4.0 out of 5 stars don't watch this film if you're going to Asia, 18 Aug 2000
What a classic movie! Great to see that today's mega-stars like Nicole Kidman (Eyes Wide Shut)and Hugo Weaving (Matrix, Priscilla) are actually decent actors and have been for years. I first watched this movie on TV in Australia in the 90's and it was pretty scary then, but sitting on the plane to Thailand in 98 it all came flooding back! Ahhh. If you want a movie with great acting, good location and that will scare the pants off you - buy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most memorable drama ever, 4 May 2002
By A Customer
I saw this on TV many years ago - and am still yet to have such an impression stapped on my memory since - from any series or film. The performance of a young Kidman provides the concluding evidence of why she is the "hollywood queen" of the current day. This DVD is full of suspense, excitement & sorrow and will compel you to take care of your luggage when on far away destinations! I did go to Bangkok a few years after seeing this on TV and did not let go of my bag for a moment. This will put you off prisons for life....
You really must see this little known drama - as it will undermine all the multi-million movies you will see again. Highly recommend it - I've been searching for this DVD for years!
