1.0 out of 5 stars Lance Henrikson and Brion James wasted in an utter flop., 27 Oct 2008
When you read "you'll wish you were back in Elm Street" on the back of a video's cover and then start watching a film whose title theme is vaguely similar to the Nightmare on Elm Street signature tune, you know things aren't looking good. Then there's the little girl who sings. Hmm.

For what it's worth, this film involves mass-murderer Max Jenke being sent to the electric chair, before returning to haunt the cop who caught him via all things electrical. Lance Henrikson and Brion James put in two powerful performaces as the cop and the killer respectively, but they're sadly wasted in a film which is really just cashing in on the back of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. Whilst the original Nightmare threw the viewer in at the deep end and set up an intriguing and disturbing mystery (who is the sinister dream-stalking figure and howcome people wake up with injuries they sustained in dreams?), House 3 takes a very long time to get going and has a pretty stodgy plot. Though the two lead actors do their best with the material they've been given, it's all just pretty tedious. There is a constant use of swear-words (at one point a conversation seems to consist of very little but f-words) and the 'turkey' scene is just hilarious rather than frightening. Don't bother. Even the lesser Nightmare films are better than this turkey of a film, and Shocker did the 'electrical killer' theme much more effectively.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic 1980's Horror, 15 April 2007
If you liked "The Evil Dead" then you are guaranteed to enjoy the "House" movies.

So bad that you can't help but enjoy; this movie (and the other House movies) is a classic piece of 1980's horror. Not recommended for people who can't help but criticise "terrible visual effects"; considering the limitations of specialist effects at the time this movie was made, it's actually very well done.

However, don't go into it expecting to be frightened or gripping the edge of your seat in anticipation; unless you're easily afflicted with fear, House is more humorous than it ever was scary. Yet, for serious horror genre nuts, this might be a disappointment...but it's certainly an experience you must have (like trying marmite for the first time or taking a night to sit and watch the entire Star Wars Trilogy from start to finish).
